    Evesham Axis Athlon 1700+

Got one of these, my daughter uses it, its served us well and she has asked if the graphics card can be upgraded so as she can then play her brother at Doom (Via Lan party- his pc is alot better than this).
What sort of graphics card would be ok for this scenario? I know its an old pc but thought others here may have a similar set and possibly know...or is it a case of bin it and get a more modern pc. Im not sure as this is the right place to post this so please accept my appologies if its not...Regards..Alan

    Re: Evesham Axis Athlon 1700+

I guess this is a PC from the era of GeForce 2 or 3 series graphics cards... and it would have an AGP 4x or 8x slot maybe?

What version of Doom are you talking about? Doom 3?

I imagine you can pick up an AGP graphics card for very little that would be good enough. I believe Doom 3 has minimum requirements for a GeForce 3 series card... although I doubt you can even buy one of those any more. Maybe look for a AGP 6600 series card... can't be much more than £30.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply. It is Doom 3 and it is an AGP slot, I looked at a BFG 6600 gt, is this sort of card ok then, is the processor fast enough and 512 memory ok or is this not part of the equation, just want to make sure befor I outlay some money. Cheers...Alan

    Re: Evesham Axis Athlon 1700+

Thanks, I might play crafty, get my son a better graphics card, hes on AGP but I know his pc will easily run a BFG 7600GS / 7800GT job, and I can then rob his old card which is the BFG 6600 GT and put his old one in hers...good move! Kill two birds...as they say...cheers lads, always there for us older gits...regards...Alan
