last yr did an upgrade to a 1090t from a q6600 ..was going to go bulldozer but we all know how that turned out ..so waiting for pile driver see how that is ...
still using my 5870 and really can't see me upgrading that for at least another yr or maybe 2 ..
    the best upgrade was 16gb ram on a crosshair v .. and a 128g ssd ..

Re: Will you upgrade this year.

I wasn't planning to upgrade but my laptop died so I'm getting a completely new desktop system to replace it. It's being built by Chillblast right now. Cannot wait for it to be built and delivered as I'm using a borrowed slow old laptop with it's Celeron processor and integrated graphics until then.

Wasn't planning to but couldn't pass up a deal on Phanteks PH-TC14PE so upgraded from Noctua NH-U12P. Then wife's GPU died and I got her Gigabyte HD 5770 Silent Cell which didn't want to play nice with her monitor... So got her Asus HD 9850 and upgradd my HD 6570 to the HD 5770... which loves playing with my monitor.

I only built my new PC a couple of months back, and I keep having to resist the temptation to buy a pair of GTX 670s and SLI them. My current GPUs can handle everything I've thrown at them, so I don't need to upgrade... I just want to

I know the problem. I have a ridiculous amount of kit most of which might not be absolute bleeding edge, but its all very, very capable. Just for once I am listening to the long-haired boss when she says we don't need it instead of scheming how to get around her!

I have to point that ultimately, you must remember that SSD's are built upon the technology that is Flash Memory. Therefore, the speeds (both read/write) are fantastic, but there are limited read's and write's before the memory is "wasted" or lost. SSD's at the moment are quite expensive costing more than £1 per gigabyte in most cases. Compare these to Hard Drives which are much cheaper and last a hell of lot longer although yes, the speeds are slower. Anyway, I digress. My point being that the "120GB" range for an SSD isn't really viable at the moment - you should really only be using SSD's to boot up your operating system, in order to reduce the number of writes to the drive. You don't want to be wasting storage and longevity of the drive by writing numerous games and programs to it. You should aim to go for a ~32GB boot drive.

Just my advice - others would disagree - but I would follow this strongly until SSD's are more reasonably priced in competition with HDD's.
Hope this helps, or at least makes you think a bit
