    Macbooks...cheaper to own?

    Hi there!

I am in the process of selling my old Windows 7 laptop and I'm very much considering to buy my very first MacBook Pro laptop.

I can't help but compare a MacBook Pro/Air laptop to a Windows 7 laptop. At the current situation Windows laptop are still cheaper to buy. And those nasty compatibility issues on a MacBook (like Fat32, etc.) are almost non-existent with a Windows one.

But I see MacBooks as sleek, slim, light, very easy to use & user-friendly, they tend to keep their value in time, almost virtually omnipotent against viruses, long battery life, fast boot up, and an A1 customer support.

I'm gearing towards a MacBook even though it's slightly expensive.

But why do I need to get a Mac? Is it really cheaper & better to own one in the long run than a Windows laptop?

Some of my worries still remains: compatibility (either where you connect a portable hard drive and the Mac might not be able to detect the partition/files given it was formatted to a different format or programs that might not have Mac versions), fan noise & heat (after several months/years of use), the need of an optical drive, resale value and the expensive Apple Care in order to access tech support + repairs options.

Those are my worries for now. Are they "manageable"? Are they non-issues at all?

    Please advice. thanks.

First of all you can easily install windows on a separate partition, then you have best of both worlds.
A mac running bootcamp IS a windows laptop.

The rest boils down to how you get on with OS X

Get a Mac book/Air and then get either VMware fusion or Parallel PC. Install any OS within it.. You are sorted.

Once you own a Mac, you will never look back.

VirtualBox is both free and miles better than Fusion/Parallel...

Where did you hear that? There's a test build for Mountain Lion but Virtualbox on Lion is the same version number as Windows/ Linux. It runs just fine.

VirtualBox runs fine on most things, but if you're planning on doing anything particularly performance-intensive in windows it'd be better to go with bootcamp.

Of course, with VirtualBox being free it doesn't cost you any extra to do both.
