VLC on Windoz 7 -- problems

    Hi:

I've installed VLC on my PC on drive "E" and the operating system is residing on drive "C". I'm trying to setup VLC as my default but windoz won't let me. It's as if windoz is not allowing other programs to function inside windoz 7. Howcum?

    Thanks for the help.

P.S. I don't think I've installed that program blocker that Micro$oft has foisted upon us.

I think you should fix the keyboard problem first before VLC.

Loving the name all thumbs, seems quite appropriate, ! had issues with VLC with Windows 7 and the way I solved it was to right click and run as administrator ont he setup program for the application even if you are already an administrator

Start > Control Panel > Default Programs > Set Associations

From there, find the most common video files you use the most and change it to VLC. You can also right click the video file and change it from there, make sure to tick the little box so it always open them and not just the once.

    This, absolutely in my experience.

    Hi Crmster84:

You presume that I can type well enough to be able to type "all thumbs" frequently and without error. I've given up on perfection and instead am quite content with "Allthunbs". I kept putting the space is the wrong place so I dropped it and I couldn't figure out how to get the "m" so I gave up and I use the "n" ;-)

I have disabled all users on this confusion except administrator. VLC is installed, and runs exclusively, on administrator. The only way I could defeat M$ was to remove media player which I did on one system. So, I use one system with a reasonable graphics card and VLC and no M$ and the other with the crappy graphics card I use for other purposes - no media player necessary.

I do agree. I usually burn up a keyboard every eight months to a year and this one is getting a bit sluggish. Finding usable keyboards has become a real problem now. I used to be able to get nice double-detent Hall-effect keyboards but the manufacturer has stopped making them, except on special order, qty 1000.
