    Re: New PC

I'm honestly not overwhelmed by the current info on the haswell processors, sure they'll be great in notebooks with the reduced power but I'm not seeing anything spectacular in the desktop line, even a 50w reduction (doubt it'll be that much) would barely affect me. Which is why I decided to go ahead and get a i7 3770k and not wait another couple months.

It seems amd isn't touching intel at the moment so they're playing the slow game and just saving money which is fairly disappointing.

unless you're aiming to use onboard graphics, it seems to be an improvement.

    Re: New PC

Haswell doesn't seem to be promising any huge upgrade compared to IB or even SB. I'd buy now. Afterall, there's always something new around the corner.

i7 3770, a lot of RAM but I'm thinking you're going to need a GPU for that much screen real estate.

    Re: New PC

the haswell processors have been delayed, I believe they will be arriving around September. So just go for the i7 3770k as that will be great for gaming and if you want to code.

    Re: New PC

If you can wait I would personally wait the new chips will bring about a new socket which usually means the death of support for the older ones. Plus you might get decent feature cheaper because it will be more standard e.g. more sata 6gb/s ports, usb 3.0 ports and maybe thunderbolt (although the latter needs more devices).

Is the i7 even worth the premium?
I'd just get an i5 and spend the difference on ssd space.

    Re: New PC

If you run alot of hard drives etc, then wait for haswell as the only big thing from what I can see is the ability to run 6 sata ports @ 6gbs and more usb 3.0. But i'm wondering if it keeps getting delayed with the rumors of sata express on the horizon?

Get another 7950 in crossfire, get an i5 4670k and you'll be set to go!
