Need advice on purchasing a good, cheap laptop

    Hey,

My girlfriend is looking to buy a laptop for blogging and illustration work. However the budget is quite tight at about £350, maximum £400. The desktop that she is using at the moment is quite an old HP:

Intel Pentium Dual core - 2.2GHz
    1GB ram
    geforce 420
    17" monitor

This is almost adequate for most of what she uses it for, however it is unbearably slow when doing anything more tasking than blogging, and is taken by other family members a lot of the time.

I have had a look at the Asus X54c, which seems pretty good. I can only find one in stock anywhere though (from scan):

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/156-a...rw-w7hp-%2864-

I've been looking for laptops that have Core i3 processors I'm not sure if there are any better alternatives at the same price range, how much worse are the pentiums? What is the difference in performance between i3 and AMD A4/A6?

If anyone has any ideas on good value for money laptops at this price range that would be great. I have a main focus on the performance inside the machine, so I'm looking for people to shed some light on the quality of the build and battery life etc. of any laptops as well.

That looks like an awesome bargain. Has anyone ever used this site? I realise that they are refurbished laptops, and there is only a 1 year warranty. But the value seems to be unbeatable. The one that you have linked may be a bit out of price range when VAT is inc. but providing that all the laptops are refurbished to the same standard we may purchase one from there.

    I was thinking the Inspiron 15r - 5110
