Hi!
I’m looking for a low-end 17” laptop for gentle office use. No gaming, no video editing, so performance isn’t a big issue. The most intensive task will be streaming online video.
I’m looking at Dell’s Inspirons, as with a couple of current offers they seem to be competitively priced. Here are the low-end 17” options:
Pentium 2117U (2M Cache, 1.80 GHz) / 4GB RAM / 500GB 5400 / 2.64 kg / 1600 x 900 Backlit Display / 4-cell battery
£329
i3-3227U (3M Cache, 1.90 GHz) / 4GB RAM / 500GB 5400 / 2.64 kg / 1600 x 900 Backlit Display / 4-cell battery
£359
i5-3337U (3M Cache, up to 2.70 GHz) / 4GB RAM / 500GB 5400 HDD / 2.64 kg / 1600 x 900 Backlit Display / 4-cell battery
£409
i3-3110M (3M cache, 2.40 GHz) / 4GB RAM / 1TB 5400 HDD / 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 630M / 3.28 kg / WLED Display / 6-cell battery
£439 - hold on, I'm now seeing that as 'clearance' for £386
Any thoughts on what the sweet spot there is for price/performance? Any real reason not to go with the cheapest 2117U-based model given it won’t be used for anything harder than watching streaming video?
Or should I be looking at something that isn't Dell?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
