    Which Gaming Laptop

My wife is after a laptop (bet not many threads start with that), and Ive decided to pass on my 18 month old DELL XPS i5 to her.

I want to get myself a gaming laptop, somthing which has enough power and punch to play Sim City, Fifa, COD on high-ish settings.

Can anyone advise how much I should be looking to pay, and if I am best sticking with DELL or something else like an MSI?

    Many thanks for any help.

Depends on how future proof you would like it.

You can spend £1300+ to get a tope end gaming laptop with a 680M that will play most games on High/Ultra and continue to so for the next year or two.

If you want to spend between £700 and £1,000 you should probably be looking at a laptop with a 670M/675M or ideally a 7970M. All these cards wil play the current versions of all 3 games you mentioned at Ultra settungs.

In terms of gaming laptops, pretty much any make with a decent graphics card and FHD screen will do but the more dedicated makes would be the MSI G series, Dell's Alienware or one of the custom built Clevo laptops from OCUK, Scan, Schenker or PCSpecialist

    I like gaming laptops from:
    - ASUS
    - Maingear
Some people keep telling me Alienware, believe DELL make those now.

    Re: Which Gaming Laptop

Starting price on a usable gaming laptop is about £600 - for that you can get something with a Geforce GTX 660, in last year's colours. Wife got a Lenovo Y580 for that, a month ago.

From there, it's between you and your wallet how much you want to spend - you can get bigger, or smaller, or faster. But never compromise on the graphics - anything worse than a GTX660 isn't worth being called a gaming laptop.

    Re: Which Gaming Laptop

I'm currently looking at the XMG p303 and the Gigabyte p34g, both are compact lightweight <2kg "gaming" laptops. Thats all there really is to choose from at that size/performance niche. if you go to 15.6" display there is a lot more choice. I had an msi gx660r for the last 3 years. great price/performance but build quality is questionable, had to replace the power socket after 24 months. other thing is that the chassis is what I would consider very heavy. maybe 4kg+ im not sure. personally I wouldn't go MSI again until I can see improvements in their quality. In the mean time I need to either decide between the xmg or the gigabyte... or hold on until something else faster...cooler... lighter comes out!! i might have to flip a coin! take a look at shenker/xmg, thers a lot of choice and they seem reasonable. good luck with the decision making process!!

Have you had a look a the GS70 from MSI. Quite a few of the popular outlets are selling the GS70 20D-409UK. It's a 17.3" Notebook, Ultra Thin and Quiet coming in at 2.65Kg
