Cheap desktop for gaming/school?
Hello there, i am looking for a gaming desktop that would also be good for putting school work onto. I am not an over the top gamer the games i play are mostly Total war games, far cry, skyrim ect but on my acer laptop(that finally died) it was rather hard to play them. My budget is £400 might be able to push to £420-430 max.
Thank you in advance :)
Edit: Oh yes i forgot one of the desktops i am looking at is a Aspire X3995 Desktop PC from currys.

How do you feel about building your own? :)
Re: Cheap desktop for gaming/school?
Take a look at the Scan 3XS stuff. Absolutely, under no conditions should you buy a PC from Currys.

Re: Cheap desktop for gaming/school?
If you can do Lego you can build a pc. Scan has insurance any way. A shortcut would be to buy a bundle of CPU and mobo preassembled.
Is there anyone you know who could help ? What's your budget ?

So the budget needs to include the OS,monitor and keyboard and mouse??
FC3 and Shogun2 tend to prefer at least 3 to 4 reasonably fast threads. Skyrim tends to prefer two reasonably fast threads, but scales OK to most processors AFAIK.
Edit!!
The Acer is not a bad base spec, but the case is cramped, and the PSU is small:

You will need to get a discrete card and the Acer does not look a good choice for this.
The IGP with the Intel CPUs is not that great,so once you add in a discrete card and a monitor you would be over budget still.

The first part of the build comes from CCL Computers and the second part of the build comes from Ebuyer.
You can get cashback on both orders:
http://www.topcashback.co.uk/ccl-computers-ltd/
http://www.topcashback.co.uk/ebuyer/
The total comes to around £423 and with the cashback it means you should be also able to get a keyboard and mouse too, within your £430 maximum budget.
The budget was quite limited so I had to go for some budget choices for the PSU,motherboard and monitor, but these should do the job. The build also has 4GB with should be sufficient for the timebeing but you can add more RAM if required at a later date,as the motherboard has 4 RAM slots.
The monitor only has VGA but looks OK for the price:

The HD7770 comes with a copy of FC3 and FC3:Blood Dragon.
