Looking for the best Ultrabook/sleek Laptop currently available.

    Hi all.
    Hoping to find some advice.
I've done lots of searching but just don't know what to do.

I want a decent laptop around 14/15" for work and mid level gaming so ideally it would be a I7 with a decent graphics card.
If it's light and portable too then I'm happy.
Budget really isn't a problem but I don't want to pay over the odds £1500 should be enough, if it lasts me 2-3 years thats great.
A decent screen would be good with a backlit keyboard and usb/Lan etc.

There seem to be so many around but I just can't decide which is best.
Ideally I'd like to go for Windows 7 as well as I'm not sure I can make the jump to Windows 8 (but that's a nice to have).

    Welcome any links or suggestions

Had a look at the Razer Blade? Sounds like what you need off the top of my head...

I've been waiting for other manufactures to put a M7xx nVidia card in a haswell ultrabook. Razer showed its possible so want more to do it... The blade is let down by its mediocre display.

Its a shame that Intels spec for the Ultrabook badge requires a touchscreen now... I don't want a touchscreen.

Yep the Razerscreen is a let down.
I don't want a touchscreen either and not a fan of windows 8.

have you looked at the new gigbyte p34? could fit the bill looking at your requirements (decent screen, nvidia 760, quad core cpou and thin/light)

    Here is a direct link:

I know ocuk have it up for pre-order and I am sure many others will also shortly if not already.

I am looking at the 15" version (p35k), slightly better specs but also slightly more expensive:

It's still not an ultrabook really though is it?

    I mean compare it too:

It is really a case of how important is the graphics chip vs portability.

Agreed. but it is hardly the size of a gaming laptop either is it

If you want a decent gfx card you have to make some sacrifice. I am currently using a 13" samsung series 7 ultra. It is the size of an ultrabook (although slightly thicker than a mba) but the gfx card is only a ati 8570m which is very low end. I can play some SC2 and wargame AB on it, but you would't want to play BF3!

I will happily trade it up for a slim 14/15" laptop with a bit more muscle (quad and decent gfx). Battery life isn't that important to me as long as I can get 3 ish hours

Re: Looking for the best Ultrabook/sleek Laptop currently available.

What level of performance would I get from the Gigabyte laptop?
My desktop PC has a GTX 280 card and I run 4GIG RAM with an Intel Quad Core 3MHz

I know the Ultrabooks are thin and lightweight etc but clearly they aren't meant for beefy games so there needs to be a trade off as Ninja suggests.
I really like this Gigabyte so long as it's not too bulky (by bulky I mean the Alienware that you can buy).

How would this Gigabyte compare to my current PC and is there much difference between the 770M and the 765M Cards?

Re: Looking for the best Ultrabook/sleek Laptop currently available.

I don't have any experience with the 280, so I cannot answer that.

The 770m has about 25% better performance than the 765m. It has more shaders and 192bit memory bus compared to the 765m's 128bit bus.

I would say the 765m is upper mid range and the 770m is a lower high end card in the mobile range. The 765m pretty much replaces last years 660m where as the 770m replaces the 670mx.

Take a look at the MSI GS70 on your budget
