Re: Recommend a Dell laptop
Have you looked at the Latitude E3440 and E7440 starting at €520 and €1049 (ex VAT/del) respectively? Both are 14" and have 4th gen Core chips.

Re: Recommend a Dell laptop
I'm on a Lattitude E6320 at work (no longer available, but the E6330 is). The Lattitudes are more expensive because they are intended for heavy business use: they're a premium product and have the finish and durability to back that up (plus generally thy have a wider range of accessories: for instance, I don't think the XPS have full docking capability, while the Lattitudes have a range of desktop docks available).
tbh, I'd've thought a Lattitude 3330 would be ideal - ulv Sandy Bridge, 13", lightweight, and starts at 529 euros. Not having the latest processor really isn't an issue when you're looking for low power, long battery life etc. Yes, a Haswell-based book might get you a couple more hours between recharges, but is that really a deal breaker?
The Lattitude 14 3000 is the other obvious option - a little bigger and heavier, but steps up to a haswell ULV and is 10 euroes cheaper.
