    Replacement Battery - Advice

Looking for a replacement battery for the wife's laptop. Not many around for the model, but UBatteries comes up over on ebay, Ships from the states, anyone have any experience with these. Not used ebay for a long time, but happy to go if the best place.

Any recommended UK based sellers either?

As a side note, recently dropped and partially broke the internal power connector as only likes to charge with the cable in a specific place now (blames me for not getting the battery earlier). Are these easy fix, I guessing needs a solder, any approximate costs for a repairer?

    Re: Replacement Battery - Advice

I've rotten luck with third party laptop batteries, every one I've used has died within a week.

Have you tried searching for the particular part or model number for the battery itself?

About the power connector, it could be separate to the mainboard or on a daughterboard that you might be able to replace without any soldering. Search online for spares relevant to your machine to find out if the DC power connector is separate to the mainboard.

if you are happy taking the laptop apart you can buy a new socket for under a fiver off ebay, you do need desolder braid and a solder sucker to get the old one off as it is usually 5 legs on one.

are you anywhere near nottingham/derby as I could chip in and save you getting ripped off from the repairers as they charge around £100

This is what I was worried about. Its quite an old laptop and no official batteries around it seems. Might have to take a punt and see

Thanks for the offer unfortunately not, about as far south as you can get.

I will have a look on some of the technical specs to see if they're separate as well, thanks for the advice.

    Re: Replacement Battery - Advice

Did a quick search and its a cable, no soldering required, thanks again for the advice, £20 from Lambda-tek.

Tried looking for battery again as per advice and found some more alternatives once I found the part number. Looking at a German make, GRS, through fulfilled by Amazon as a possibility. I just cant help but think the "genuine" ones are not, all the UK battery websites look terribly suspect.

glad it is the modern design of a stand alone part, saves a lot of messing about! just take care removing the case, if the screws are not the same length make a note of each ones location. an easy way is to put a sheet of paper over the base and put the screws through the sheet so you have a template
