USB 3.0 Docking Stations - Graphics Performance?
Hey,
I'd like a docking station to hook my lappy up to monitor, LAN etc., and there seem to be some pretty cool USB 3.0 docking stations on the market.
The one question I have was re. graphics performance. I have a discrete card (GTX 765M) - will I still be able to use this for gaming if the video is outputting via USB rather than HDMI? If so, would there be any performance impact, like added latency?
Any other general USB 3.0 docking station knowledge would be great!
Thanks,
Su

why would you output video via USB? doesn't make much sense to me

One less cable to connect... :)

I really don't think USB graphics is meant for gaming, you are basically driving a cheap graphics card over USB.
What you want is Dockport, which is now a VESA standard but hardly supported yet. Maybe in your next laptop you can do this.

Hmm ok, so when I game, I would need to connect the monitor separately via HDMI, but that's cool. Most of the time I will just be doing productivity work anyways.
Definitely need a dock now though. Just got a USB DAC and the cabling is getting ever more complicated!
Cheers,
