I have found Dell's to be a waste of time for games and high demanding stuff but for the office I believe Dells are unbeatable. Not only are they quiet but they are as quiet as any other PC available, hope this helps, Alex
Ive had 3 Dells each for around 4 years and they have always worked right to the end (get rid due to upgades) Saying that though my recent Dell downgraded from 2.53ghz to 1.8ghz but in the office environment who cares?
Compaq deskpro's, seem quiet good am on my 3rd (upgarde not failure) at work. We have around 250 on site and they seem very reliable. Being a greedy sod I currently have 2 P4 units on my desk. Most impressed with the lack or noise. TBH they aint exactly hard pressed, but nice quiet easy systems. The only time they did have problems was the buncj that had deathstars inside, very peed off IT bloke.
Do Compaq's still exist? I thought HP took them over?
They "merged", am now up to 3 P4 deskpros. Dont actually need them its just the apps I use wont run under the same OS, or together :)
I go with Dell; the Optis are great machines, and I don't think you can get much better for a bog standard corporate laptop than the Latitude D600; unless it's the D610 - I'm ordering a few of those this week so I'll have a better idea of how they compare. Word of advice; if buying Optis with TFTs MAKE SURE you get the DVI adapter and go for the UltraSharp panels. Much, much nicer.
edit: I'd also say that for all that people bitch about Dell support, for me, the corporate and server support guys have been GREAT. They really do mean next-day-on-site if that's what you need.
