    Surface Pro 3 pen exploded.

Just to let you know my pen kinda exploded on me.

Using it normally when suddenly feel a loud pop from the pen. Unscrew the pen, drop the battery into the bin, its popping like rice crispies. Few drops of battery acid on the plastic tag.

Going to have words with Microsoft tomorrow. Not impressed. Will report back

Never nice when a battery explodes. I had one blow up In someone's kitchen. Battery acid everywhere.

Take pictures of it and send them in as well.

What kind of battery was it. A cheap battery may fail but its usually the device that causes the issue.

Re: Surface Pro 3 pen exploded.

I think it was an Energizer AAAA battery but I will check in the morning. Hopefully get some decent compensation from Microsoft.

Re: Surface Pro 3 pen exploded.

So I called them and after a few questions (mostly about if anyone was seriously injured or require medical attention) they need to escalate it up to "tier 3" support. I will get contacted within the next day and will need to send the pen in for inspection.

Re: Surface Pro 3 pen exploded.

The pedant in me has to say, the liquid that came out of the battery, assuming that it's an alkaline AAAA, isn't acid. It's likely to be potassium hydroxide which is actually basic.

    Still a caustic substance though.

I'll keep an eye on this thread, I have a Dell Venue 11 which also has an active stylus powered by an AAAA.

Eep, what brand of battery was it? Mine came with a GPSuper branded AAA.

Re: Surface Pro 3 pen exploded.

I had an issue with an older surface where the PSU went a little wibbly... after a little bit of back and forth with questions, microsoft just sent a new one out free of charge. I find they are very good with stuff like this
