My Gaming PC and problems i had

    Hello Ladies and Gents,

I bought a G30i Gaming system from Scan because my Old Medion Pentium 4 system was getting very outdated even though i'd done all sorts of Mods to it,
It had XP os and updates had finished so i thought it was time to retire it and apart from the
Seagate 120GB hard drive it was scrapped, the 120GB HDD was put in a USB caddy for storage,

    My G30i spec's are:

    Corsair 200R
    Motherboard: Asus H81M-PLUS, 2xSATA 6Gbps, 2xSATA 3Gbps, 2xUSB3, 4xUSB2, HDMI, DVI, D-Sub, mATX
    Intel Core i7 4770, 1150, Haswell, Quad Core, 3.4GHz, 3.9GHz Turbo, 1200MHz GPU, 34x Ratio, 84W
    System Memory: 16GB (2x8GB) Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz
    Graphics card: NVIDIA 2GB EVGA GTX 750Ti SC, PCIe 3.0, 5400MHz GDDR5, GPU 1176MHz, Boost 1255MHz, Cores 640, DPort/DVI/HDMI
SSD: Sandisk SSD, ULTRA II, 2.5" SATA 6GB/S, 480GB
    HDD: 1TB Seagate Barracuda, 7200rpm, 64MB Cache
    DVD Drive: Samsung SH-224DB (SATA)
Power supply: Corsair 600W Corsair CXM, Hybrid Modular 80 Plus Bronze PSU
CPU Cooler: Intel Reference Socket 1150/1155/1156 Aluminum Heat Sink Fan <<< This was in when i got it from Scan <<<
Sound Card: Creative Labs Audigy FX 5.1 Gaming Soundcard
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Pro 64bit, Supports 16GB RAM and above,

Also got a 24" Acer monitor (fixed to wall) and other bits,

When i received the above from Scan I was Gobsmacked it was Nice and Fast and looked excellent

I then loaded my software: M/S office (fully loaded) Nero 2015 platinum etc etc and everything went Brilliantly

I then wanted to transcode a few movies from AVI, MKV etc and
thats when things started to show something wasn't right ...Temps started to get hot! hot!

I have a Performance monitor on my desktop and it was showing the temps for motherboard and CPU during the transcoding and i got very worried indeed So after having a browse on YouTube and other forums
I decided to change the Intel Reference Socket 1150/1155/1156 Aluminium Heat Sink Fan Hoping this may solve my problems So..
    I bought :
Cooler Master Hyper TX3 EVO CPU Cooler 92mm Fan
    Arctic AC-MX-4 Thermal paste
    2 X Corsair AF120-LED Blue
    2 X Corsair SP120-LED Blue
Isopropyl Alcohol, Micro fibre cloths etc,

When the items arrived I then got on with the job of changing/adding the above,
I'd Never done this before But i need not have worried it was easy after seeing all the "How to" Videos

When i looked at the mating face of the Intel reference cooler It looked like during the installation of it an
Air bubble had formed and left one 1/4 of its side touching the CPU (Metal on Metal)

I then got the rest of the New fans installed and Booted up... And
Temps were Well Down (I'd wrote down Idle and load temps for checking)

Now Even when transcoding Movies my temps stay bellow 48°C (Were 74°C)
When idle Temp is 28°C to 30°C

So i'm very happy now with my System,

    Well worth the money/trouble

    Thank you reading this,

    Kind regards,
    Les

Welcome to Hexus, and good to hear you are enjoying your new system (with a spec like that you should be enjoying it ).

Just to say, the heatsink compound is basically a filler that fills any gaps. If there was a bubble then that would be unfortunate (though not dangerous) in putting the temperature up, so it wouldn't be so much "metal on metal" as "a small air gap where heat won't pass so well". OTOH, some people complain that the stock fan isn't that good if you load the system up so perhaps they were never going to be good temps anyway. I doubt many people around here run with stock fans.

Yep, I think hardly anyone uses the reference coolers!
    Good job, fella.

Might wanna expand your post greeting to include the ladies, though - I'm pretty sure we have some of them around here and I'd hate them to feel excluded...!
