Theres been a company in the states using BTX for its systems since July/August, I read somewhere about it recently......
*bangs head against desk*
And I knew the name when I hit the reply button, but now my mind is blank (not that its anything other than blank 99% of the time) :p
BLeh.... If I remember i'll post again.....
Its Gateway.....
Gateway?
LOL ya beat me to it :p
wow looks good with all the air vents back and front :)
All we need now is for AMD to take BTX on...
I actually have been really impressed with BTX, it does work - can't wait to pick up a Pico unit for my living room.
I think the RAM is too far away from the CPU (with integrated memory controller) and it's causing problems. It looks like a nice platform though, so hopefully AMD can get around the problems.Quote:

AMD don't need to take up BTX - it is mainly for very hot systems....
I look forward to when BTX is the standard, I am a fan of desktop cases but it's getting harder and harder to keep a modern system cool in one. Thinking of going watercooling soon.
Dell, to name just one manufacturer, has long been using air ducts to reduce noise from inside the PC, while at the same time cooling its PC's internal components just as effectively. The thermal module takes this one step further. Combining a single large fan, a heatsink for the processor and some form of ducting to guide airflow, the thermal module will be the key for effective cooling of BTX systems.

Do we know if any of the big name case manufacturers are planning nice aluminium or htpc cases based on the btx form factor?
Dell is also using BTX on its new Optiplex systems, namely the GX280.
BTX is inevitable for companies like dell who refuse to sell AMD.
The theory is there, but its only to save Intel's sorry backside for having such infernos for CPUs.
I liked this hiper case that was reviewed on bit-tech. The DVD-player-like one that took mATX mobos. Would be great for putting a P-M in one of those things and using it as a HTPC. It even comes with an AGP riser!
With all this change in technology, eg PCI-E, DDR2, DDR3 round the corner etc.... Do we really need to change the type of case we use for the sake of intel looking less stupid? I think not.
Sister has one of those Dimension 5000, nice bit of kit and nice and cool, very effective cooling.
The first BTX shuttle is now available, this is coming, slowly but surely.
Thanks Matt.
BTX beats ATX. Face it.
I don't see any problem with companies adopting the BTX standard, so whats all this about Intel looking stupid over it? No one expected the technology to be on the shelves the very next day when it was created, and Intel are doing a good job of bringing it in incrementally. Hell, they're not stupid, they know ATX is the most popular standard, so its going to be a slow change.
Well I am sitting here working on my new BTX Shuttle SB68i, its no quieter than the Antec Case P160 the kit came out of, but I don't expect it to be that quiet, the main problem I have encountered with this so far is the hot air from the CPU is being blown in front of the 6800GT and its running about 12 degrees hotter than it did in my Antec P160, which is a bit concerning, but at the same time its a shuttle, its small and its easier to lug about than my Antec was ;)

It looks quite similar to the G5 powermac design, mesh venting at front and back, a "throughflow" of air, the "reverse" side opening to ATX powermac G5
I think it will eventually take on, but it all depends on what AMD have planned. I believe the ATX factor has many flaws, and is outdated, its time for a new change, stroll on BTX!
At the moment AMD cant use the BTX format because of the memory controller as was said above (funny Intel designed it) I am not too concerned beacuse i need a system now and i will be getting a new case if i want a new pc in the future, heat is not a problem for me at the moment. But yes, BTX is better.
