Possibly a stupid question but here goes....
My desktop computer has just the one 1TB HDD and is running Windows 10.
I've ordered a new 128GB SSD drive (arriving tomorrow) to use for the OS and to load my applications such as Photoshop/Lightroom onto.
The 1TB HDD I already have in the computer will be for storage only.
I had a quick look at the BIOS today and under 'Boot Mode' it states UEFI only and is in black so I can't access it.
Is that because I haven't added the SSD as yet?
I'm just trying to get it right in my head of what I'm doing.
I plan on taking out the HDD I have in the computer now and inserting the SSD and then installing Windows 10 onto that.
I then plan on putting the HDD back in so it can be the storage drive and formatting it.
I've also been informed that changing my BIOS from IDE to AHCI would be the way to go?
Does all of that make sense, I hope so?

Re: Possibly a stupid question but here goes....
AHCI allows extra commands that are useful for SSD and HDDs. NCQ for one.
is there not anything you want to keep on the original 1tb? you can copy the data over with various software and saves you re-installing.
UEFI is fine, why do you need to change this? its just a fancy BIOS.

Jack,
Thank you for your quick response; I thought that because it said 'Boot Mode' next to UEFI that this was where I went to to set up which drive Windows was going to read first.
The 1TB HDD already has Windows 10 on and as yet, I don't have another HDD handy to transfer files across to.
A have a laptop as well with my files on and everything important is backed up to Google Drive.

It isn't.
But either way, if your OS is currently booting using UEFI, changing it will normally make it not boot. Long term, you're better off using UEFI as your PC will boot quicker.
