Acer c730 SSD chromebook upgrade , SSD, SD compatibility.

I have an Acer C730 on the way. 4GB RAM 32GB SSD as standard. I also ordered a USB hub with network adaptor.

It's mainly going to be used for the interweb, some terminal emulation for network equipment, odd document editing such as my CV, some rudimentary programming, checking my emails. Nothing taxing

I intend upgrading the SSD to a 128GB+ (warranty, schmwarrarty) and depending how I get on with Chrome OS (which I have never used) I might put a linux distro on

What type and form factors of SSDs are compatible?

What SD card variants are compatible and up to what size?
Presumably the OS change can be done via a USB flash drive?

I might not use the SD(HC) card very much apart from the OS change but I do need a card for my Zoom H5 which takes up to SDHC and up to 32GB.

I'm not particularly flush with cash, the chromebook was bought with a giftcard.

    Experiences? Recommendations?
    Many thanks

32GB often means eMMC soldered to the board and no option to add a standard SSD.

Does 32GB mean that specifically in the case of the Acer C730?

    Normally, yeah.

That one has an SD slot though so could put a healthy sized SD card in there?

I found YT videos tonight for c740 ssd upgrade. The 720 is SSD-upgradeable, so if my interpolation is correct...

Re: Acer c730 SSD chromebook upgrade , SSD, SD compatibility.

Best bet is to remove the base cover before you buy anything and see if is has an M.2 slot. Then you'll know for sure. it's always risky assuming that a similar model from a similar range will have the same features; manufacturers don't always name products logically

tbh, with a Chromebook you shouldn't need to expand the storage - the whole point is that it's meant to be a connected device that mostly uses cloud storage, and I suspect that you'll find ways to work with it even if you can't upgrade the storage.

But the only way to know for sure is to crack it open and see what's inside.
