    17 Gaming laptop? - £900

My current laptop (Dell Inspiron 17) is seriously starting to show it's age, and at 5 years old I don't hold out hope it continuing forever. It gets daily use for a good few hours (weekends even longer), everything from Planetside 2 to general word processing. It also does get bounced around a bit with travelling to families, and little ones around - and really shows it.

From what I can tell, Dell have discontinued this vain of Inspirons with dedicated graphics, and instead you have to plump for their Alienware ones - these are out of my price bracket unfortunately.

Can anyone recommend a solid gaming laptop for around the £900 mark. Having a few years warranty is essential - the idea of spending £1000 on something only assured for a year strikes me as madness! being robust is also very beneficial.

    Cheers

The Dell outlet is probably your best bet.

    I've seen Alienware notebooks, i7, 8gb, 128ssd and gtx970m go for around £800.

It's holding up well. I don't dip into it as much as I used to, but still make sure I put some time aside to stay 'in' with it. It never takes long to find a large scale battle, though equally easy to find small skirmishers/stay on the 'sneeky' side of it! I play on Miller!

I just want to find a decent 17" Laptop that will keep me playing it for the next few years. Still keeping eyes open if anyone can recommend a decent GTX 1060 ish laptop for around £1k +/-.

    This any good:

Its slightly above your budget though. Ones with 15" screens can be had closer to £1000 though:

    Re: 17 Gaming laptop? - £900

Should've known CAT would get in with the Medions first

15" laptop with Quad Core i5 7300HQ and GTX 1050 graphics for £950:

    http://www.medion.com/gb/shop/back-t...0022555a1.html

    17" laptop with Dual + HT i7 7500U and GTX 950M graphics for £900:

    http://www.medion.com/gb/shop/laptop...0022546a1.html

If you don't mind dropping down in screen size I'd go with the 15" one - proper quad core and GTX 10 series graphics at < £1000 is pretty damn good value.

Alternatively, save a bit of money and go for this 15" laptop with the i7 7500u + GTX 1050 @ only £800:

Picked up a link to this on facebook earlier - an ASUS at ebuyer with i5 7300 HQ (proper quad core) plus GTX 1050 for only £700 (although it is a 15" rather than 17")!

They're a german brand, owned by Lenovo. I've never had one of their laptops, but my stepson had a Medion mobile phone a couple of years and it was pretty well built. You'll often find their other consumer goods (and occasionally the laptops, although not as often) in Aldi's super specials.

If their laptops are built like the rest of the stuff, they should be pretty good - they're not going to be premium quality, but then you're not paying premium prices either You should pretty much get what you pay for - reasonable specs with solid build.

    Re: 17 Gaming laptop? - £900

Thanks very much for the suggestions guys. As expected, my laptop died on me after a very difficult 5 years for it! Very impressed with Dell over those years.

I am not stuck, as approaching Christmas money is tighter, and with the vast majority of my games being fairly old now (Valve, UT2k4 etc...) combined with me spending less time on games (but still enjoying playing them) I am hesitant at spending £1000+.

The below are are therefore what I am more or less short listing, but I am not sure which way to lean. The i7 and 1050ti, or the i5 and 1060? Any suggestions for future proofing for continued light gaming use over the next few years?

The two suggestions above of the MEDION:

For general usage probably the MSI,but if it is for gaming, the Medion.

If you look at the spec carefully its the GTX1060 6GB,not the 3GB version too!!

No doubt some games like BF1 MP might like the Core i7 more, but the GTX1060 is another tier above the GTX1050TI though.

The whole range seems to be based around a standard Clevo chassis:

    https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/th...ptop.18792430/
    https://www.notebookcheck.com/Test-M....174545.0.html

Those are the models with the GTX1070 installed. It seems you can upgrade the RAM and the HDD,but the CPU might be soldered.
