    Laptop Guidance

    Hi guys,

Long time, no post but I'm in the market for a gaming laptop that will allow me to play PC titles mainly in the following categories: RTS (e.g. Total War, Civ VI etc.) / Simulation (e.g. Cities Skyline) / Top Down RPGs (e.g. Diablo 3) and of course, the occasional bout on WoW. As for game categories that encompass the likes of Witcher 3, Battlefield 1 etc. I'm quite intent on playing these on my XB1 (Feel free to send abuse in a postcard). ;-)

I'm not too fussed about playing the titles I've outlined above on ultra settings, high would be my preference, and my budget is around the £1000 mark (can possibly stretch a bit higher if need be). A 17.6'' display would also be preferred but again I'm not too fussed (smaller might actually be better as I plan to use the system in the living room, most of the time).

Need more info? Just shout - and thanks in advance for any help given.

    Cheers,
    Kev

    Re: Laptop Guidance

You want to look for the 6600HQ / 7600HQ for the processor and ideally the GTX1060 for the GPU.

A system in this range is likely to be £1200+

If you cut back on the performance you will soon be able to pick up systems with the GTX1050 Ti for around £800-900 mark. Pricing isn't yet known but that's what I expect they will come in at.

    Re: Laptop Guidance

Thanks cptwhite, I've managed to pick up all the Xmas presents with a bit left over for me, so I've pushed my budget for this up to around £1,300. I'm currently eyeballing this:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/757274-asus-ro...gl702vm-gc010t

Can't see it cheaper anywhere else at the minute but it does look like it dropped to £1,099 during Black Friday, so I'm thinking about waiting until after boxing day to see if any deals sprout up.

Reviews seem to be pretty decent and the only consistent negative I've read of is that it can get damn hot. So I was thinking about picking up a cooler pad (maybe http://www.ebuyer.com/175534-targus-...ll-mat-awe55eu) to go with it.

Open to criticism of the above choice if you or anyone else has any other suggestions / words of wisdom.

    Thanks,
    Kev

It's available cheaper on Amazon for £1279 (stock due 30 Dec), and if you use quidco and happy to sign / cancel a which? account it can be had even cheaper ...around £1259 less 2.2% quidco cashback = £1231.30 via laptopsdirect

Got it at the cheaper price + discount + cashback - thanks cptwhite.

Will drop a review once I've got it up and running / played some games, for anyone interested!

The Alienware 13 inch with 6700HQ and OLED display is quite appealing. If you don't mind going i5 you can get it for around 1300 too

Just noticed you went for the Asus laptop. Let us know what it's like!
