Removeable laptop batteries
Yikes.
See, my insistence on removable laptop batteries wasn't paranoia :P

As far as I know this battery hasn't been recalled. Fortunately my 2y9m old Dell Latitude E7440 is still in warranty, just, and Dell have agreed to send me a new battery.
Re: Removeable laptop batteries
Hope the replacement is better. That's the sort of thing you expect tohear about from ebay cheap battery packs, not official Dell items. Good that they're honouring their warranty on it.
Re: Removeable laptop batteries
Makes a change for Dell, they usually try and hide behind it being a consumable and not covering them under extended warranty!
The XPS15 batteries (fixed) swell and lift the trackpad!
Re: Removeable laptop batteries
I decided to examine some other devices with LiPos in them, here's one from my MotoG Droid Razr M I had stashed away which was occasionally used as a juke box.
:/
I guess I should add smartphones to my 'told-you-so' list.

^ Which Moto G is that battery out of?
My GF has my old 1st gen "16GB" (more like 11GB ; XT1032) and I'm now using a 2nd gen Dual-SIM (XT1068) and both of these are still OK. Hers shows no signs of the battery getting weak either.

Oops, just checked, it's not a Moto G, but a Droid Razr M (XT907) - locked to Verizon hence its use as a juke box.
EDIT: Replacement battery just arrived. It's higher capacity than the bad one, from 47Wh to 54Wh, (DP/N 0909H5 to 0G95J5, type 34GKR to 3RNFD). Old part known to be problematic perhaps? Not that I'm complaining
Re: Removeable laptop batteries
I believe there are various different battery problems which cause gas release - here's one (good video, crappy audio) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WpQ...youtu.be&t=19m
You're generally less likely to get this (and other cell damage) if you don't repeatedly charge to 100% (and/or charge slower to between 90% and 100%) unfortunately not many device firmwares give this option.
Dell notbooks BIOS do have an option to do this on some Latitudes.
If I'm not in a hurry, then I try to charge my phones more slowly (use a lower current power USB supply) and/or stop the charge around 90% if I happen to notice - unfortunately my phone doesn't work with this: https://android.gadgethacks.com/how-...-wear-0176280/
