Hey guys,
Apart from my PC and Dell 7650 Laptop (it has a GT 750M card that runs games very decently) I got myself a Macbook Pro and I love it. But gaming performance on the Macbook is not all that amazing tbh - granted I got a 13 inch model with Intel Iris graphics, I was expecting better.
Are any of you guys gaming on Macbook pros? Also, whenever I do game, I've experienced that the laptop exceeds 100C and is burning hot to the touch, do you guys think its safe?

That doesn't sound like intended performance. Check for firmware and OS updates, if it's still that hot under load, get onto Apple. There may be a problem with your thermal hardware. I wouldn't consider that fit for purpose to be that hot under a sustained load.

If it's literally burning hot there's a problem but if you're not actually getting burnt and it's simply uncomfortably hot to keep your hands on for any length of time then that's probably as intended. Many laptops do get very hot under heavy loads. Notebookcheck do measure temperatures but unfortunately they haven't tested the 13" touch bar model yet (only the non-touch which has a CPU with half the heat output).
Iris Graphics are generally thermally limited or memory bandwidth limited rather than by CPU power. It's even conceivable that a higher clocked CPU will actually reduce performance slightly by taking up more of the available thermal room.
Looking at notebookcheck's benchmarks it appears as if it should perform similarly to your old 750M. At least when running Windows, you may find some games don't run as well in Mac OS because of wrappers.
It's going to be a little bit slower, but this sounds like thermal throttling.
Which CPU do you have? According to wikipedia there isn't an i7 @3.1ghz, you sure you aren't on the i5? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacBoo...ecifications_4
Now don't forget this unlike your Dell will be sharing that GPU memory with the main system. It could just be possible that it can't vent enough. I find my i7 SP3 is useless in ambient temps above 30°C such as Singapore, I have to ensure I'm in a place with AC if I want the CPU to not be badly throttled.

As soon as I run any game, including the latest CIV VI, temperature shoots up to 104C or 108C even.

Yeah that's way over board. Even 90C would be on the high side for a laptop.
Isn't 105°C supposed to be shutdown?

Not sure. I am on a Macbook Pro Retina 13, 2015, and this temp range I am giving is for the CPU.

If it's not the latest one then it will be a fair bit slower. Intel have been making big jumps in integrated graphics performance.

What do your clock speeds look like?

I use a Macbook Pro at the moment. I placed Steam on it but, overall I rarely use it for gaming. It just about runs games I like such as CS GO. But it definitely starts to run hot after around 20minutes of intense use!
I tried gaming with a Macbook Pro , while it can play a number of games fairly well it does suffer and lag when it comes to demanding titles. As for the heat , it is does get more hot than I would like when gaming but is still more cooler than my other laptop. You could try using a laptop cooler to help .
The 103c on their test was for a stress test and only for a small amount of time , which would be harder on the system than gaming would be , that 100c is something he should look at , way too hot.
The exact same can be said for older PC's though..so that's somewhat irrelevant..
It didn't fall off, it merely became insufficient at it's purpose and got a bit droopy...
Macbook Pro all of the way, in my opinion!
I am playing games on MacBook Pro and enjoying it much. The MacBook doesn't get much hot and I can enjoy playing high-end games lag free.
