Looking for a decent gaming laptop for 11 year old

Hope someone can help, I need to get one of these for my daughter she plays a lot of Minecraft and has started streaming so need to get something with a decent GPU and CPU and if possible a built in webcam
Would like to keep it under £1k if possible but I haven’t got a clue where to start as I’ve no idea what’s good.

She is looking for a backlit keyboard and I guess 15” to 17” would give her enough screen size
    Can any one help please

    Thanks

I doubt you'll get a capable gaming laptop that can cope with streaming for under £1k.

If it's purely for Minecraft, it won't need a beast of a GPU and 4c/8t could be doable, but longevity could be an issue as 6/12 is seen as the recommended minimum for livestreaming games.

Does it have to be a laptop? It's easier to achieve with a desktop, notwithstanding the dreadful GPU shortages at the moment; but again it shouldn't need a meaty GPU for the task.

If they're just going to be playing Minecraft then a budget laptop like the Acer Swift 3 or a Lenovo Ideapad with an 8 core 4700U APU should be enough for streaming at well under £1000. If they want something more then my bro is very happy with his Omen 15. It's well built and I think the entry level models come in at around £1000 with basic dGPUs that should play newer games at console quality 1080p.

Thanks I guess in time she will move on to more powerful games so would be good to get some thing that will last a few years

I could get a pre built but I think a laptop is more practical for her

    https://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/P...pt=ABU&sel=NTB
    This doesn't look bad, in stock for £900 - 8 core 4800H, 16GB RAM with 1660Ti.

    https://www.scan.co.uk/products/156-...x-3060-win10-h
A lot more powerful graphics if you can find this anywhere £1000 - 8 core 4800H, 8GB RAM with 3060. Maybe drop in a stick of RAM down the line.

    https://www.scan.co.uk/products/156-...-wifi-6-bt5-wi
Also this £1000 - 6 core i5-10500H, 16GB RAM with 3060. Processor might struggle a bit for streaming in future.

Thanks middle one looks ok but it doesn't arrive until after her birthday lol.
Wondering if a desktop might actually be better?

Re: Looking for a decent gaming laptop for 11 year old

I find a laptop seems more practical for kids as a one stop shop and they can bring it with them to friends' houses. But on the plus side for desktops, they can't secretly bring a desktop into bed to play Sims all night so depends on what you think about this. It's going to be hard to find either desktops or laptops in stock at the moment regardless. The trouble with desktops is the 3060 isn't out until 25 Feb so maybe you can try call somewhere to get a pre-order in. I think most decent 3060Ti pre-builts are well over £1000 and none are in stock.

This has an RTX2060 for under £1000:

However,in December it was available with more RAM for a lower price:

Re: Looking for a decent gaming laptop for 11 year old

My only worry with a laptop is how loud the fans would be if trying to stream. Well, that and the laptop getting dropped.

OTOH, my kids got bored of streaming very quickly, so not sure I would put too much emphasis on that.

You can get quite small desktops, including ones small enough to strap to the back of a monitor (like the PN50). But the larger a PC is, the easier it is for it to run near silent.

Ok so turns out she doesn’t want a laptop and now wants a gaming rig!!!

Any base systems out there that are ready to ship for £800?

As well as streaming she mentioned rocket league and fortnight

wow when I was 11 I was lucky to get lego! It's sure a different world these days. Best thing is prob to look for a prebuilt. Component prices are nuts right now, and good luck finding a budget friendly gpu in particular!

Re: Looking for a decent gaming laptop for 11 year old

Laptop is a good miss, she would probably get sick of the fans going off. As for PC builds around that price you'll see a few on places like AWD with a 3060 and maybe an i5-10400F or something but they go quick.
