    UPS systems

    I've decided that I should get a UPS system. But can find little information on them.

    What do you guys recommend? Fairly low budget. £50-£60 ish

    I use 2 Belkin systems at home, but they cost around £120 at the time. Very heavy and a comparatively small battery. But the units needed to be fully self contained.

    I found a UPS which was old and "faulty" but it just turned out the SLA battery need replacing, picked up a 10Ah one for cheap brand new, fitted it, and now get a much longer support time (haven't timed it, don't intend to).

    You'll have to remember that the battery will most likely need replacing every couple of years, SLAs loose their charge.

    IF you do get one, make sure it produces a sine output off the battery, the cheaper ones don't and this can cause problems with sensitive components.

    Id stay away from belkin ones, can you afford the extra few quid for the APC one? I think its telling that APC rate their 650W at 2.5 min uptime, and belkin say 25 max. for a lower wattage. I know thats not all its down to, but i cant see Belkin using better batteries to be honest.

    Another one here for APC - UPS is only half of the story, its the software control that you need too;

    What does windows use as default? Yup, APC.
