    Unhappy Oh crap, they're back...

    Time back in business

Just when you thought you were safe...

Seriously, they repeat more often than broccoli, they've risen from the crypt more often than Dracula; what does it take to finally and irrevocably kill them? Burial at a crossroads face down at midnight? A stake through the heart? Exposure to sunlight?

The purpose of this forum is for people to discuss pre-built systems. That includes systems by Time, Scan, Alienware, anybody!
Seemed the most appropriate place for it, but if you think it should be moved to somewhere else, then fine. Mods, if watching move where you consider appropriate?

    lol!

no i think Time would probably qualify for being a turnkey system provider, especially as all their packaged used to come with (basic) printer, (cheap) scanner and (dodgy) digital camera

I didnt think time were that bad, especially when compared to TINY. Had a look at a few in shops before they merged and the times seemed OK, did they use off the shelf components or did they go the dell route and use custom stuff?

They generally used "crap", I think is the technical term; Time PCs were the source of numerous nightmares - they produced specs which looked great on paper but were cheap as PCChips... Their support was pretty much non-existent, and consequently IT departments (mine included) had a constant stream of people bringing in machines which we were expected to magically heal. That they'd been assembled by chimps (and untrained chimps at that) out of the cheapest components that they could get (I well remember their early Win98 boxen with TV cards in - big selling point, but you were more likely to get a clear signal from Flight 19 than via one of those pieces of crap) didn't seem to sink in with their users; neither did the repeated and pointless attempts to get support. They sold shoddy kit to people who didn't know any better until everyone caught on and they collapsed. I despised them from the first occasion when I was left struggling with one of their pieces of garbage. Hell, Tiny used to be halfway decent by comparison until they were bought out by Time.

Yep; their earlier machines used things like MSI motherboards - nothing fancy, just decent basic kit. Following the takeover, they started using cheaper parts, went bust and then got resurrected briefly. Basically, both companies were operated following the takeover by Granville Technology before they went into administration.

    What?

I can see them going straight down the pan again, nobody trusts the brand, what was the point in resurrecting it?

People these days will buy Dell/whatever PC world sell. They aren't going to order off the internet from a company who have gone bankrupt so much.

So I'd guess that anyone who expects a warranty honoured or to receive support are basically SOL.
