    Hello,

    I am looking to build a system something like:

    Intel Core i5 2500K CPU 3.3Ghz, maybe slight overclock.
    Gigabyte GA-Z68A-D3-B3 Motherboard (Intel Z68 Chipset, DDR3, Socket 1155)
    Coolermaster TX3 Cooler
    Corsair 8GB (2x4GB) Vengeance 1600Mhz RAM
    Corsair 120GB Force SSD
    WD SE16 7200RPM 16Mb Cache - 1x500Gb + 1x320Gb (might drop the second HD)
    Corsair HX520W
    Antec P180 case (3 fans)
    Panasonic 16x (or sth like that) DVD-RW, cant remember model.

    + the graphics card.

    Some of the components are existing from my current system. I am looking at a GTX 570 graphics card which I know seem to quote minimum 600W PSU so hence the advice.

    According to http://extreme.outervision.com/PSUEngine says Minimum 400W, Recommended 450W.

    But of course thats only a guide.

    The PSU has:

    Triple 12V Rails provide independent reliable power to the CPU, video card and other components with a combined rating of 40A maximum. Advanced circuitry design that automatically enables power sharing between the triple +12V rails in an event of overload on any single +12V rail.

    The reason I am asking is originally I was looking at a 560 Ti SC/OC card and they seem to recommend 500W PSU but seem to consume more power than the stock 570?!

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Yes it should be ok
    but the gtx570 @stock uses less than the gtx560ti @stock.
    overclocking will increase the power demand, how much by will depend on the level of overclocking and the card.

    in general normal usage (peak numbers) it is slightly more power hungry than the stock gtx570

    All PSUs have a single 12v rail. The seperated rail malarky is marketing bs.

    At 40A your PSU is more than capable of running a gtx570 on that setup. Ignore the wattage requirements companies give and focus on the amps. The 600watt figure is given to cover all psus, including the cheapest units that provide less power than your hx520.

    All PSUs have a single 12v rail. The seperated rail malarky is marketing bs.
    Not true there where some that did, fully separate 12v mofets, capacitors, pcb traces and wires. However they tended to be far more expensive and could cause potential issues with individual rails getting overloaded, so the majority of multiple rail psu's are "virtual rails" where a single rail is broken up into multiple, cross connected, rails.
    And many single rail psu's are actually virtual rails, a truly single rail psu would have all the 12v wires leading back to a single solder point on the pcb, which becomes difficult to do with a large number of wires and actually dangerous at high ampage numbers, as pulling 60amps or more from a single solder point would cause enough heat to be a real risk.
