    Need a new PSU

I'm currently looking for a new gaming PSU. Max budget of around £60. I don't intend to crossfire or SLI so is 600w overkill? Should I opt for a ~500w instead?

    Ideally:

    -excellent warranty
    -build quality etc
    -longevity

    My suggestions?:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/600w-...ed-48a-plus12v @£51.59 (today only)
    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/650w-...onze-140mm-fan £62.39 (today only)
    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/620w-...-fan-atx12v-23@£62.16
    http://www.cclonline.com/product/183...upply/PSU1077/@£54.92

    Can anyone suggest some others?

    Re: Need a new PSU

Without knowing your full spec I couldn't comment if 600 watt would be too much, but thats what I run in my PC OCZ Stealth Stream 2 which is dead quiet to be fair. Had the 500 watt one previously and only bought the 600 becasue Scan told me it wasn't powerful enough to run the 6850 I no longer have, and they were wrong about it being a PSU issue.

    Re: Need a new PSU

Originally this PSU was for a future build, after the bulldozer release. However I'm in need of a PSU atm. So as for specs I don't really know. If I can play BF3 on high/max settings than I would be happy.

    Re: Need a new PSU

FWIW, I'm running two 5870s at full pelt (bitcoin) off a Corsair CX500.

Admittedly it's only a dual-core processor at stock, but nonetheless. If it can run two, then one's a breeze.

    Re: Need a new PSU

The second and third PSUs would do the job and I would avoid the other ones in the list.

I would also look at this PSU too:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/650w-...-12v-135mm-fan

It does get a good review:

    http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php...tory9&reid=216

The XFX PSUs have a 5 year UK based warranty IIRC.

This PSU also seems decent and is modular:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/261364

This OCZ PSU also seems decent too:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/264511

The 550W version gets a good review:

xfx and a 5 year warranty? Am I hearing that right? Especially after hearing about their uk gpu warranty stories.

    Re: Need a new PSU

Their main horror period was when they and Scan had a daft arrangement, which didn't actually last that long in the end.

    Re: Need a new PSU

You'll get more for your money on a non-modular, Corsair PSUs are brilliant, quiet, stable, well packaged...

I'd suggest this at your price point:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/600w-...ed-48a-plus12v

Or if you don't like flashy blue lights:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/600w-...ingle-12v-rail

The GS and CX series are a good bet, I don't know what you intend to power with it though, 600W is more than you need for a mid range CPU and graphics.

    Re: Need a new PSU

CX series are not as good value as they used to be dude, they have started using much worse quality components than the original series. Personally i have found corsair in general to be quite overpriced for what they are and infact there is much better value to be had with other brands such as Antec (High Current Gamer series), XFX (as Cat linked) and OCZ.

    Re: Need a new PSU

The Antec and XFX are made by Seasonic. The Corsair is made by CWT and the OCZ by Sirfa. They all seem to use Japanese made capacitors too. TBH,any of the units will do the job.

Interesting thoughts... I've got a VX 550 in one machine and it's rock solid, that one overclocked better with the VX than with the Antec I had before (admittedly not a modern Antec). The AX-750 in my new build was not cheap but it's very efficient, just about silent etc, it feels like quality - I know that's rather subjective but the voltage readouts are also very close to spec etc.
