Could somebody recommend a PSU please?

I am building a i3 system with HD5770 and am looking for a reliable quiet PSU, >400W output. Could somebody recommend a relatively cheap one please? Thank you in advance.

You can get free Scan postage:

The XFX is not expensive though. Unless a PSU is on special offer anything under £30 tends to be rubbish. The PSU is one of the parts you don't want to skimp on.

What I mean is if you're looking for a 400w psu expect to pay around £40, if you want a 650w psu then your looking at around £65.
Only a rough estimate, but it's a good base guide, ie if a psu is rated at 600w but only costs £30 then you can pretty much guess that it's not a good one and in reality is only really a 300-400 watt unit that's over specified.

Really sorry, I was just kidding. It is a really handy guide, I think I will use it to judge if a certain model of PSU is of good quality and wait for a good deal, since I have just realized that I have two HDD and a SSD, 400W might be insufficient. I will wait for a good deal to show up and probably go for an Antec. Thank you so much to you two for such constructive suggestions.

You probably could run an HD5850 1GB or HD6870 1GB fine off the XFX 450W PSU. The Core i3 is an energy efficient CPU too. The 550W version is around £47 and the Antec HCG 620W is around £60 this weekend too.

Re: Could somebody recommend a PSU please?

Two HDD and an SSD is very little power the majority of power usage in a pc is the cpu & gpu between them they are around 80-90% of the load (depending on setup) a large raid array of 6+ hard drives is where they start putting noticeable load (the array means they are all written/read from at the same time)

Sorry I have been away for a couple of days. Thank you all for very helpful advice, I happened to come across a deal and eventually bought an Antec Earthwatt 500W, running i3+GTX460+two HHD+one SSD. So far so good. Cheers!
