XFX Pro 850W vs Antec 850W vs Corsair TX850m

As the title says looks for a good 850w PSU (to cover future upgrades or would I get by with a 750w?)

Build - 2500k, P8Z68-V Pro, 8GB Corsair Vengeance, 2GB MSI 560TI (with another one when needed).

750W should be plenty with overclock and would cover future upgrades but just checking whether or not be better just going with 850W?

This is the main PSU I was looking at. I have read good reviews of the Black series but not so much of the Pro series, review looks OK on here. Is it still a good one, especially for the price but is it worth it over the 750W Corsair at the same price.

It is this one on Scan: 850W PSU, XFX PRO P1-850B-NLG9, Modular, 88% Eff', 80 PLUS Silver, SLI/CrossFire, EPS 12V, Fan

If it was a 750W I would probably go with the Corsair TX-750, which is a good one.]

    Cheers for the advice.

Re: XFX Pro 850W vs Antec 850W vs Corsair TX850m

I'd say go for a 750W. Tbh, you won't even need that much, I had 2x 5850s overclocked along with an Athlon X2 and the graphics cards were on 100% load 24/7 for 2 months and it always ran below 400W load (~380W). I used an XFX Core Edition 650W and it ran cool and quietly. For you it'd probably run on around 300-400W load with an overclock as gaming doesn't push things to 100% so a 750W would be plenty. I personally used the Corsair TX750W v1 and then changed it out for the XFX Core Edition 650W, the power draw was roughly the same but IIRC the XFX ran slightly cooler to the touch and I dunno if it was just me but it was slightly quieter (both are quiet though to my ears).

Re: XFX Pro 850W vs Antec 850W vs Corsair TX850m

Yeah, Scan only stocks the 850W XFX though so that rules out the lower wattage ones and it is the same price as the 750W Corsair which was why I was leaning towards the XFX. Plus its only £10 more than a 650W which I think is £10 well spent.

Just wanting confirmation that it is a good PSU before getting it from what I've read both are pretty solid. If I can get 100W extra for the same price it does give me just a little more headroom at no extra cost, especially if I was to carry over this PSU into my next build after this one (if it still working)...

I recently went for this one:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/products/750w-...2v-quiet-fan-a

Its a fair bit more expensive than the XFX, however it has the following benefits:
    More efficient
7 year warranty, the 7 years is dealt with by SCAN
Build quality is mind blowing, with very nice cabling
    Fully modular
    XFX have poor customer service

I just think, the extra spent is justified in my opinion.

Re: XFX Pro 850W vs Antec 850W vs Corsair TX850m

The XFX is out of stock for the foreseeable future anyway which rules it out. Been looking at the other Corsair offerings. I'll see how my budget goes to get that one, although I'd perhaps look at the 850W version (HX850) is only £3 more, offering similar performance.

If my budget doesn't stretch I would likely get one these 3:

Re: XFX Pro 850W vs Antec 850W vs Corsair TX850m

Bare in mind that the HX series is not the same as the AX. The HX is very good, but is an older design and not as efficient.

The enthusiast Corsair is a nice PSU. I recently put one in a customers PC, nice bit of kit.

To be honest, all of the high end Corsairs are nice, the AX is just exceptional.

Re: XFX Pro 850W vs Antec 850W vs Corsair TX850m

So you would recommend the Enthusiast Corsair over the HX but the AX over both?

The Enthusiast is at a nice price at the moment and has the added advantage of the extra 100W.

    That being said a 750W would still be fine on a system with a 2500k, Asus P8Z68-V Pro/Gen3, 8GB ram, SSD + WD Black and 1 or 2 560Ti's/6950's.

Re: XFX Pro 850W vs Antec 850W vs Corsair TX850m

The Enthusiast is great but the HX is a little better as it has 7 year warranty over the 5 year with the Enthusiast and a little better efficiency.
    This is how they stand:
    1. AX
    2. HX
    3. Enthusiast

But if your budget is tight, there is nothing wrong with the enthusiast

Re: XFX Pro 850W vs Antec 850W vs Corsair TX850m

Still trying to work out my full budget. Got the following for £850 so far, which just leaves motherboard (Asus P8Z68-V Pro/Gen3) and PSU (one of the above). Was trying to keep it under £1100 but can stretch a little.

    Win 7 Pro, 2500k, Corsair A70, 8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600mhz, 1TB WD Black (Storage/games), 128GB Crucial M4 (OS/games), Coolermaster CM690-II Advanced Dominator, 2GB MSI 6950 Twin Frozr III and a Sony DVDRW drive.

So depending on the price of the Asus boards when they come out will determine which version I get. If they are similar to the non-Gen3 boards (Pro is £145) then I will see. I might stretch to the 750W AX as I am looking to keep this build for 3-4 years - just update it slightly (8GB more ram + 2nd 6950 or a new GFX).

Yeah, should be good. Ordered those parts listed above and now just waiting for the Gen3 ASUS Z68 boards to hit the selves and I'll buy one of those and a PSU which will be one of these (leaning towards Corsair) depending on how much I want to spent when I order the board.

Should be fine with a 750W but wouldn't mind the extra headroom of an 850W.

This is the PSU I choose for my system: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/750w-...iet-fan-atx-v2

    Some reviews on it:

My PSU before this was an Enermax MODU82+ 525W which is still working in the family PC 4 years after being purchased. That Enermax MODU82+ 525W PSU can run my current system comfortably. I couldn't rate another PSU make higher than Enermax because I am using 2 of them and find them to be brilliant pieces of kit. They are quiet, efficient, long lasting and often are able to survive stress tests above their rated power so are great quality.

I only really choose a PSU from 4 manufacturers: Enermax, Seasonic, Silverstone and Corsair(mainly because they used Seasonic kit, not so much any-more). For your price range (~£100) the Enermax NAXN 750W sticks out as the best in my opinion.

For Your Information: the maximum power rating(600W, 750W, 850W) is a useless indicator of the headroom provided by the PSU. What gives you headroom is Amps on the 12v rails and the quality of the PSU which results in stable voltage output at high load.

For Your Information: the maximum power rating(600W, 750W, 850W) is a useless indicator of the headroom provided by the PSU. What gives you headroom is Amps on the 12v rails and the quality of the PSU which results in stable voltage output at high load.
Enermax is a good brand, you do however get a longer warranty with Corsair. the good thing about buying Corsair from SCAN is that as they are a main dealer, the warranty is sorted by them.

Re: XFX Pro 850W vs Antec 850W vs Corsair TX850m

The warranty issue is a good point, with Scan being the warranty dealer it would be easier with Corsair for sure. All depends on price. The AX-750 should be able to power 2 6950 OC's + 2500k OC + all the other bits reasonable well. In theory the other 2 (Enthusiast and HX750 (out of stock ATM)) would as well. So just got to decide how much to spent and whether I wish 750 or 850W.

The budget at the AX-750 would bring the HX-850 into play as well but I'm not sure I will spent that much.

You will be blown away by the quality of the corsair PSU's which ever one you go for. Its a tough one, just depends what you want to spend. All will run your system fine. Your total system will draw under 600w, so you good to go.

Think I will go for either the HX-750 or the HX-850. Will make a decision later in the week when hopefully the Gen3 Asus boards are in stock.
