Thought I had a faulty PSU but I don

I fitted a new SSD to my HTPC on Monday & afterwards it wouldn't start. I thought the PSU was at fault so bought a OCZ one from PC World but discovered the problem was my motherboard. I have replaced this today & filled a RMA request out for the faulty one with Scan.

The new OCZ PSU was removed from the packaging & tested but even if that had solved the issue the one & only sata cable wasn't long enough to reach between the hard drives & bluray drive.

Can i return it for a refund as not suitable for the purpose?

I very much doubt if the power supply you got from the pink shirt store isn't faulty. If biught frim the store you've got no rights to return anyway, it's purely down to the store if they want to, and if they do expect them to make you take a 10% reduction in what you paid for it.

Sorry maybe I should have been clearer. I realise that both PSU are now OK. What I'm asking is as the cables on the OCZ one are too short to reach my components can I return it as "not fit for the purpose" or should I just sell it on?

I can't see how you can argue as "not fit for purpose" when the problem is your specific requirements of case + mobo design make for contributing factors.

As above yout better off selling it on, your not fit for purpose argument holds about as much water as a leaky tea pot. You could argue that if you'd asked about how long the cables were and was told yes they would be long enough as you relied on the traders expertise (ha thats a laugh experts in PC World) then you could argue the PSU was not fit for purpose.

If you just took it off the shelf, didn't ask anyone about the length of the cables and just bought it then sorry to say you've no rights at all.

Take it in and ask. If they say yes, no problem, if they say no, you are no worse off.

Its surprisingly useful to have a backup powersupply lying around. Yours might not have died now but having something to fall back on or to test with is a decent think to have. Assuming you deal with a lot of custom builds of course

Only if bought online, products bought in store off the shelf have no cooling off period at all.
