    Coolermaster psu?

    Hi

Building a new pc, leaning towards getting an i5 2500 processor. Was thinking about getting the Coolermaster GX RS750 power supply at £69. Would this be any good, or are there better for the same price range or even cheaper that would do the job just as well if decide to overclock.

Remember reading an article regarding the coolermaster range (unfortunately can't find right now) that said that even though the label said the wattage was higher on the label, the performance was the same as the lower model. Haven't noticed many people listing their pcs with a coolermaster psu, so am starting to second guess myself as to whether they are any good.

    Re: Coolermaster psu?

it depends on the model the very cheap elite series psu's where list as peak power, the 500w was only a 420w continuous output.

The GX range is good for the cost and are rated at continuous output not peak.

ps you need an i5 2500k if you want to overclock.

And depending on the graphics card/s is going to be the other main factor as to how much current you need.
eg if you're just going to use the onboard graphics then a good 450w would be more than enough.

    Re: Coolermaster psu?

There are two versions of the GX series. The originals were built by Seventeam with model numbers similar to this:
    RS-*50-ACAA-E3
I believe these are still the ones available in the UK.

    http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php...Story&reid=188
    http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/artic...ply-Review/917
As you can see they don't perform that well, so I would suggest getting something else.

Because of these poor reviews Cooler Master turned to Enhance to build the updated so called GX Bronze series. Which have models numbers such as: RS-*50-ACAA-D3
These are slightly better, but I haven't seen them anywhere yet.
The recent Xbitlabs review of the 750W version put me off them as well.

It would be useful to know what your system is to make the best recommendation for a PSU, but you would be better off with something like this:
XFX Pro 650W Core Edition 80Plus Bronze £65

An alternative could be the Antec TruePower New line. Also built by Seasonic.

    £60 gets you the 550w.
    £70 gets you the 650w.

I agree, seems to be the "sweetspot" (if such a thing exists).

    Re: Coolermaster psu?

I would surely go for Antec true power instead of coolmaster GX...better quality overall.
