    Cheap modular PSU recommendation

Require a cheap low wattage PSU for a regular PC, but since it's in a cramped MATX would prefer Modular. Anything around £50?

Be Quiet Pure Power L8 430W Modular PSU http://www.ebuyer.com/283834-be-quie...ular-psu-bn180

These novatech psu's are supposed to be quite good http://www.novatech.co.uk/products/c...ov-psg400.html
It seem that due to market politics novatech can see that these units come off the same production line as a well known brand of psu's so basically they are the same units with different stickers.
Current best guess is they are the same as the OCZ ModXStream Pro but novatech unable to confirm or deny, not surprised really they also sell OCZ psu's and OCZ would probably get rather annoyed if they came out and said these are the exact same units but we sell them for £10 less

Can anyone vouch for this? Never came across the brand if I have to be honest...

Here is the PSU Pob255 linked to but in stock

OCZ 400W ModXStream Pro (EOL though):

I don't think there is a sub 400W modular PSU though (I'm yet to see one)

Bit strange that you haven't heard of the brand considering that some people consider them to be 'legendary' and have been around since the 80s (at least).

Anywhere here are some reviews for the Silencer MK III series:

You might like to know that they are based on the Seasonic M12II Bronze series, the non-modular version of which has been used in the Antec HCG series and XFX Pro *50W Core Edition units.

    Re: Cheap modular PSU recommendation

They've always been very big is the US but not outside it, until OCZ took them over you couldn't actually buy a PCP&C unit in the UK unless you imported it.
And they are still fairly uncommon in the UK

They are not seen to be quite as good as their once great status, mainly because they no longer have much input into the units.
That's not to say they are bad, it's just that they used to have their own custom designs, now as with most "brands" they just seem to pick the colour and fan.

Avoid this brand like the plague they are cheap and nasty had 2 replaced and didnt bother the 3rd time. One blew up on the second the rocker switch on the back went faulty so it always had power until the lead was removed.

Just a bad choice of power supply tbh

If you get an OCZ make sure it has a single 12v rail. The others have one rail for cpu and mobo and another for everything else

I would go for this one as well. It has Active Power Factor Correction, and most of the usual protections. It's a re-branded OCZ ModXStream Pro, and I know this because I recognise the cables from my ModXstream pro 500W. I have never had any issue with this psu, looks great and is near silent.

    ..........
Yes you could coz I bought one and this before OCZ took them over. They were very expensive though, think the name of the place I got it from was Extreme Promethia & Cooling or something like that. Eitherway you're right they are/were as rare as rocking horse poo in the UK and used to be considered one of the best......till OCZ took them over.

    Re: Cheap modular PSU recommendation

That's at least several years ago, isn't it? I remember reading about them regularly on North American sites and forums but only have a vague recollection of a rare appearance or mention over in the UK. In fact, when I thought I'd found one to buy after a few years of seeing the name, it was nowhere to be seen!

Was the supply actually any good, jimborae?

    Re: Cheap modular PSU recommendation

Yeah the rails were rock solid and it was well built but rather noisy, however as I was really into overclocking at the time that wasn't an issue.

'Noisy' changes all the time - and go back just a little way and you can say "What wasn't?"!

I appreciate my present system each time I go back to an older one and really feel an assault on my ears! Those whiny little fans!
