    Urgent PSU Problem, please help!

    Hey guys,

I'm a newbie and I recently purchased everything i would need to make my first pc build. I am currently in the process of building.

My problem has occured now that im installing my PSU and connecting it to my Motherboard.

(PSU: Be quiet! Straight Power E9 680W)
    (Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z68A-D3)

I connected the 20 (+4) pin connector to the motherboard, then attempted to connect the 4 pin cable to the ATX_12V slot on the motherboard.. but wait, there is no 4 Pin cable with the PSU. Only a double 4 pin cable (CPU1-P4 & CPU2-P8).

Is it possible to connect these to the motherboard in some sort of way? (looking at the manual it doesnt appear so). If not, is there an 8 pin to 4 pin cable i can buy so that i can use the power supply?

I'll have to add that i am extremely annoyed and stressed as after countless hours of trying to build this pc, i now seemingly can go no further. I bought the PSU from Scan, who state on the page (http://www.scan.co.uk/products/680w-...-quiet-fan-atx) that a "1 x 4pin ATX 12V connector" is included with the PSU.

However, there is no notification on the box/in the manual of the PSU as to a 4pin ATX 12V cable being included. Should i take this issue up with Scan? Is there a simple solution to this problem (an 8 to 4 cable?). Am i just so stressed that i have made a very stupid mistake? I hope its something simple, and would really appreciate any advice help anyone could give.

    Cheers,

    Terry

Does the 8 pin connector split apart into two fours? if so use the CPU 1 part

Have you checked that the 4/8 pin cpu cable is not splittable. On most they can be clipped together to form an 8 pin cable or be split and used as a 4 pin cable.

Yeh it does split into two parts (CPU1- P4), and (CPU2-P8).

Are you sure i can just use the CPU1-P4? (I certainly hope your right )

I had thought of doing that, but the tiny writing notifying the numbers on the parts has 1 & 2 on CPU1-P4, and then 3 & 4 on the CPU2-P8. However the way they are positioned makes it impossible to connect them together. However if your correct on just using CPU1-P4 then that doesnt matter

    Thankyou for the quick reply

Yes, you can split them. Some motherboards have an 8 pin EPS connector for powering the CPU, for more power(the ones with beefy voltage control). That's why some power supplies have 2 4-pins connectors together.
