What is the BEST Value PSU in the 750w - 850w market?
What is the BEST Value PSU in the 750w - 850w market?
Im lookin for a new PSU for a 2nd PC whats the 'BEST VALUE' for money, OCZ, Corsair, Silverstone, or NZXT, even Thermaltake I would consider, Please help me out here... 'I need a single rail with decent clean power, for overclocking.. Thanks in Advance...
Re: What is the BEST Value PSU in the 750w - 850w market?
Unless you have multiple gpus, you shouldn't need more than a 650W PSU.
For good value the Antec Truepower New and OCZ ZT would be top of my list. If you are determined to get a single rail the Corsair TX springs to mind.
Re: What is the BEST Value PSU in the 750w - 850w market?
Yeh! I fancy The Corsair TX750 or TX850 been 2-3 years ago since I built my old i5 750 System (for that build I used an HX850 (Modular) with 70amps on the Single rail & 7 year Warranty. Silver 90% Rated+.
However the price of the HX series has went through the roof cheapest Delivered I have seen is £130 for a HX850w. (Whoops!)
And I live in a House with a lot of dust because of the deep pile woolen carpets so I find my self having to take the top of every 5-6 months to hoover out the dust. And its now seen better days... I could use it, but fancy a brand new Power Supply, so everything is new... Call it a spring clean. Do'nt get me wrong I know someone who will give me £40 quid for it, who knows me well... cost me £109 way back. Delivered.
So Yes! - The TX Enthusiast range Power supplys would be a fair compromise, they get good reviews, and the OCZ ZT, had been already added to my amazon wish list because its Top of the OCZ range only £81.00 with Free Delivery for the 750w PSU on a Single Rail. (but recently a Guy told me when they get near over 50% load, they take off like a JET airplane). So then that put me off... Even tho, that was what I had my heart set on A week ago.! (OCZ ZT Range)
The OCZ ZT is very well built and has a lovely finish, its also completely Modular unlike the competition... its the real deal, whats it like in the real world do you know anyone who has lots of good things to say about them, once they HIT the 5)-60% Load without getting noisey or was I gave the wrong information.
Ive never heard my HX take off like that even on SLI. x2 460's (However, I now have an MSI GTX 560Ti 1.28GB 448 Cores Version, to look after, also a heavily OC'd i5 2500K, together with a NZXT Case with 6 case fans, 2x 3.5 inch hard drives, and a Blu-ray Rom. The reason I thought about the 750w or 850w was for the option to go SLI before the GTX 560 448 core is sold out.
Would I need the 1000w version, or would the 750w or 850w PSU's be ample, providing they are not going to be over clocked. - I know the !000w Version would be very expensive, and I think its only needed for Tri and Quad GPU rigs. Which I have No interest in ATM.
Please, what are your FINAL Thoughts on the OCZ ZT you mentioned, because they get plenty of advertizing in monthly magz. Also "Tonpal" - whats your thoughs on the OCZ ZS PSU (Non Modular) 750w only £65 on Scan ATM. They get decent reviews, they are single rail, 80+ but have only a 3 year warranty (But that's not really an issue at that Price, and OCZ are well known for quality).
Thanks for taking time to help, and any one else who wants to add their 50 Cents, Please go ahead. :)
Re: What is the BEST Value PSU in the 750w - 850w market?
How about a Cougar gx 800w gold which can be had for £80/90 ?
Have been looking at corsair HX/AX series and they kind of look expensive when compared to the 850ZT.
Then spotted 800w cougar, never heard of them before but they do get very decent reviews.
Re: What is the BEST Value PSU in the 750w - 850w market?
Thanks I know this Cougar CX sounds okay but I prefffer a well known brand, Ive been computing for 25+ years and never heard of this PSU.! thanks! all the same Im going to buy another HX-850 modular by corsair, as its got a 7 year warranty, and is made by "world class seasonic. the very best in the game". It will last me 5 years if I look after it, but dust does collect in PSUs over TIME, then they need to be replaced. But HEY 5 years Aint BAD because better technology will be out then. Cheers! Lax.
Re: What is the BEST Value PSU in the 750w - 850w market?
For more replies you'd be better asking on the general forum rather than a single MFR's section. You don't need anything like a 750/850w PSU in your build, even a 450w would be more than enough. Also, just because you haven't heard of a brand doesn't mean it's bad, there are better brands than Cougar however. TBF, none of the brands you listed have a full range of excellent PSUs, and ignore marketing bumph, buy based on performance, not brand or marketing. For example, Seasonic make PSUs for many resellers, not just Corsair, and sell under their own name too. But there are many other excellent MFRs, including the likes of Delta, Enermax, etc.
If you're looking for value, buy a decent ~450w or 550w and possibly a fanless one if dust is a concern. Buying a 850w for your system is a waste of money, both on initial cost and because efficiency drops off at low loads.
If dust is the only problem with your existing PSU, get someone confident to work with high voltage electronics to open it up and blow the dust out (disclaimer - I'd strongly discourage doing it if you're not - even when disconnected from mains, the caps can potentially hold enough charge to kill. Plus you'll void warranty, but if you're going to bin it anyway...).
Re: What is the BEST Value PSU in the 750w - 850w market?
So after 25+Plus years computing Im not allowed an opinion, if I say Im buying an Corsair HX-850 are you going to stop me, -: listen friend, I dont want a war with you, so I politely ask you (not to shove you opinions down my throat).
for example, my system specs in all off my 4 PCs; not one off them would perform very well, on less than a 600w PSU, im well into my 40's and dont need any help from someone who doesnt seem to like my opinions, and seems to think Id be better of on a 450w power supply,
I never said seasonic do not make for other brands did I?? - you did, Im well aware who seasonic manufacture for thanks all the same, I some who dont think we are going to get along with your attitude, so its best we stay away from each other and there will be no problems. (dont you think)... cheers, Adios! Lax.
PS. if I want to waste my money its worked hard for, and mine to waste, am I correct in saying, just in closing seeing you heckled me... for no reason other than you were looking for wasting my time. I suggest you keep you views to yourself and far away from me... Thanks all the same! Im being nice to you, but I have you on iggy from now on.
Re: What is the BEST Value PSU in the 750w - 850w market?
Are you serious?
At what point did I try to 'shove opinions down your throat' or speak in a manner to provoke such an ungrateful, immature, incredibly defensive response? Read over it again, I was simply trying to help and save you money, if you'll kindly remember, you started a thread asking for advice, that's what I provided. ;)
It's simply your interpretation of the text that's at fault here, I meant no harm whatsoever.
If you're referring to the 'if you haven't heard of...' bit, I wasn't referring specifically to you, just that an MFR not being well known doesn't mean it's bad. Similarly, some well known brands are rubbish. The disclaimer about opening it up I'll post with any potentially dangerous advice, because I don't know from a single forum post how much experience with HV electronics you have, and in case anyone else stumbles upon the post in future.
A 450-550w PSU WILL be fine for that PC listed in your spec, there's no two ways about it - a more powerful PSU won't make any difference to performance. I'm more interested in facts than opinions and marketing TBH, I can only provide you with advice, you're free to spend your money where you want.
On a side note, I frequent this forum and I'm not going to make any special effort to avoid you, although I'll make a mental note to not bother attempting to help you at any point in future. And based on your attitude, I suspect other members may too.
Re: What is the BEST Value PSU in the 750w - 850w market?
You need to look at the PSU OEM and OEM range used to make a judgement on a PSU and also the components you are using will determine what PSU model you need. Also asking this question on Corsair forum means it would be rude to be discussing other companies products. I would ask a mod to move this to PC hardware.

Re: What is the BEST Value PSU in the 750w - 850w market?
Since this is clearly a general PSU discussion and other brands are being discussed, could you please either confine to Corsair PSUs or move the discussion elsewhere? This is the Corsair section.
Thanks.

The thread has been moved as the content (discussing other mfr's products) was not appropriate to the Corsair section which is for Corsair product questions. The thread remains open.

Might want to consider air filters on all air intakes. ;) I use these: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/140mm...oogle+shopping
in 120 & 140mm.
Found they weren't catching as much dust as I would like. I made additional filters with cheap 6" x 9" x .25" scouring pads from quid store. They are usually dark green:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Green-Scouri...ef=pd_cp_diy_0
but I found some in dark gray almost black color.

Vacuum them once a month and everything inside case and PSU stay clean now.
