Time for a new PSU?

Afternoon,

I have just done an upgrade to an i5 3570k, all working well so my new setup is the following:

i5 3570k (stock)
8Gb of DDR3 1600 (corsair vengeance)
XFX HD6950 (2Gb) (stock)
500Gb Sata II HDD (7200rpm)
Corsair HX 520W modular PSU
1 optical drive
3 usb devices

I quite fancy popping an SSD in there as currently my HDD is the only limiting factor in terms of performance (I'll eventually get a bigger and better HDD as well).

I know that the max draw of the i5 is ~160W mark and my GPU is going to draw 200w under 100% load. Obviously I have the drives, devices and all the fans I have in my antec as well. Anyway! my question is: If I want to make a couple of small upgrades/ changes (namely the SSD) do I have a PSU with a high enough output to play with?

Getting conflicting messages about this from the interenets - real world experience would be nice to hear

A decent 500W PSU would be fine with your setup.

Do you think my current PSU is up to the task then? its a few years old but it is a Corsair HX series modular one.

I have that PSU myself,and it still seems fine although I have not used it heavily.

The PSU is more than powerful enough IMHO,although the only thing to consider is capacitor ageing. However,the latest Core i5 CPUs have relatively low power consumption under load anyway,and unless you are planning major overclocking,overclocked power consumption is not too high IIRC.

I don't plan to overclock, at least not yet. I don't think it is necessary for my usage right now.

That PSU will be fine.

Corsair are probably the best PSU you can buy and the wattage is normally underated compared to most other PSU makers which dont even make the wattage they are rated too.

You're probably best checking it with the psu calculator. http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp. Add any other upgrades you plan on getting in the future as well. That's what i've done.

That Corsair is definitely enough for your build even if you get a few more drives. The 3570k and 6950 are pretty power efficient.
