550W - 600W should be fine. Generics usually can't provide enough power. Go for branded, Corsair, XFX, OCZ etc

    Hi there

Looking at what you have stated a Psu of 550w to 650w with 40A+ on the +12v rail like these, Also your GFX card requires (Radeon HD 5850 - 35-40A and a 500W PSU minimum) as per stated here http://forum-en.msi.com/faq/article/...graphics-cards

    this should help

Also here is info regarding the 80+ certification http://www.scan.co.uk/tekspek/power-...-certification

Re: How much power do I need?

looking at what he's told us, he's not mentioned cpu or overclocking.

That list is a good base guide but no more than that, there's some real major inconstancies in that list
    eg a gtx460 needing more amps than a gt220 but less watts . . .
A good 400w psu should have at least 28-32amp on the 12v and you'd probably be surprised how much it'll power.

Re: How much power do I need?

as a reference, when i was on:

    -2500k stock
    - p67 msi mobo
    -5850 stock

i was drawing about 350W at full load

Alot of people overestimate what psu to buy, which is fine is your expecting future upgrades, but not if your on a tight budget

my 580 sli rig, i was told id need an 850w psu, which is what i got - at full load it draws 575w from the wall...
