Question Wanted to save some money. (450W or 550W?)

My build will consist of a FX 6300 and GTX 760 (or 7870).

I wanted to also overclock later down the line so I'm not sure if it would be better to get 550W.

p.s. Both PSU's are by XFX with the same rating.

The 450W PSU would probably be fine, but the 550W would give you further options down the line in what you can have.

Also,if you can still get an HD7870XT/LE that would be a good way to get decent performance if you can find one for under £170. OTH,it might be worth looking for one of the GTX760 cards for under £200.

I think the only thing I might add in the future is a SSD.

I would say 450w would probably be enough ,but for only £10 extra I would still go with the 550w because it will produce less heat (because its not as stressed) and will hence probably have a longer life and run quieter ,and it is worth having a bit extra just in case you do end up adding more bits later (also if you do get the 7870le ,I believe that it recommends a 550w PSU) although if your really short of cash and can't stretch the extra £10 then the 450 will be enough as xfx are made by seasonic and are very reliable

I think i will get the 550W xfx psu then. But it is still helpful to know that a 450W would still be fine for this build.

    +1

I would go for more power due to the reasons above. I have a 760watt PSU for a similar spec computer but I have this size PSU so its always running at low % load and much quieter (actually its silent), Also most PSU's seem to be most efficient at around 50% load - on average

Re: Wanted to save some money. (450W or 550W?)

Doesn't it depend which XFX 450W unit it is? There are two (known) versions, version 1 had more connectors, whereas V2 dropped the number of PCIe connectors down to just one - amongst other changes. So V2 would need adapters to run a card which requires more than one PCIe connector.

I disagree the new low wattage corsairs aren't very good as they are made by a crappy manufacture , where as the xfx ones are all made by seasonic ,and there top ones get the best reviews at the moment ..........http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/psu...psu-720-750w/9.
Make sure you know what plugs you need tho and the PSU has them!

I disagree on the comment. Corsair use CWT for their lower end PSUs and still perform well. Check this review out by LegitReview's on the CX 430M -
