It would seam the SeaSonic Platinum's are not quite the same are the new Corsair AX range. The rails are different, fan is different and the circuit board is different. But in one review they did comment on the coil whine/buzz....

I'd suspect the system uses about 220 watts most of the time when gaming and under 100 when web browsing. 350W would be under benchmark conditions.

Modern non-specialist GPUs rarely pull above 150 Watts. Unless moving to a dual GPU rig a change from the 6870 isn't massively going to change the setup in terms of raw amps at the socket.

Might be getting a bit mixed up with versions here.

The original corsair AX where based off the seasonic X which are 80+gold
The new AX760 and AX860 are based off the seasonic XP which is 80+platinum
The AXi range (the i is after the number for some odd reason) is by Flextronics (who made the original AX1200) and is also 80+platinum, there is an AX760i

The only visible difference between the AX760 and XP760 is the outer casing, on the AX760 the heatsinks are black anodized, and the top layer of the PCB is black the under side still shows the same green colour
    Seasonic XP660

    Corsair AX760
    page link http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/artic...-Review/1687/2
Both use the same Sanyo Denki, San Ace 120 9S1212F404 Fan

You might be thinking of the Corsair AX760i
    page links http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/artic...-Review/1668/2
Which btw uses a yate loon D12BH-12 fan

EDIT:Replaced img with link as harewaresecrets are being snotty, even though all their images have HARDWARESECRETS emblazoned on them.
Arrrgh wow they are being not even allowed to link although if you just copy and paste the url it works

EDIT2: The enermax sleeving while not usually going as close to the connectors as I would like, it is the nicest sleeving on any psu I've seen short of the expensive custom sleeving, it's really soft, feels more like a fabric than a plastic mesh.
I'd also agree with Willzzz on this:

The only reason I can see for wanting fully modular is if you're planning to make up a full set of custom cables for exact lengths and don't want to void your warranty or for resale.

Re: Silent high End PSU wanted

PS on your old corsair AX psu's personally I think coil wine and intermittent powering on issues would both be acceptable reasons for an RMA.
On some of the cheaper lower end units coil wine is something you might have to put up with but not on their top end products.
You want to get hold of one of their reps who'll have a better idea of the issues.

the 6870 can pull around 127w when gaming and 163w under stress testing
The 7950 can pull 165w at peak when gaming and 155w on average http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/S...apor-X/26.html

What your definition of "non-specialist GPUs"?

TDP is not power consumption it's ether recommended heatsink capacity or maximum heat output on normal use, depending on which set of values a company decides to use.
Granted it's a rough estimate of current load but it's meant more as a number for manufactures when designing products to use the chips.

And those figures are for a reference card at stock clocks.

    Suggested PSU wattage:

Anyway all of us are suggesting far less than his current PSU.

Re: Silent high End PSU wanted

Yep, I wasn't disagreeing with you, I just wanted to point out that higher end graphics cards can pull around 150w, stock non-overclocked.
That table is a very rough estimate and ignores cpu and cpu over clock which also have major impact on power draw.

my original 380-390w was based on reviews showing that an FX8350 system will pull around 250-260w under cpu load and add in around 130w for a loaded 6870 (reviews never do full cpu + gpu load)
So that 500w they give for a 6870 is a good rough estimate

    .
My AX850 was RMA'd through ebuyer... Never buy from again because they only gave me a partial refund - stupid loop hole policy.

My current AX750 is through Amazon, they have already agreed to RMA and refund, hence the hunt for a new PSU.

Looking over the Corsair forums, I'm going to stay away from the Corsair AX / Seasonic range - Coil whine seems to be a big issue.

The AXi range might have to get my money - alot cheaper on Amazon than Scan....

You are still adamant on needing a fully modular PSU?

    This is for custom cabling?

You'll find that it's not ebuyer it's everyone, and is within the law, when asking for a money refund it will depend on how long you've had and used any item as to how much money you'll get back from it.
I'd of RMA it to corsair themselves to get a replacement unit without coil whine or get that unit fixed, coil whine is caused because of the electromagnetic fields generated developed cause the coil to vibrate, all coils do the trick is to adjust the coil, thickness of the wire, the number of turns, the size and the shape, to get the effect you want while keeping the vibration to a minimum and/or any noise out of human hearing range.
The other trick is to damp the vibrations, ether by wrapping or surround the coil with a non-conductive materiel or add additional solid contact points (although this can then cause resonant vibrations in other places.)
Looks like seasonic has had trouble here, should be an easy fix, probably just need to put on an additional bit of chalking to reduce the vibration and change the pitch out of human hearing range.

And this is one area that buying from scan is better, as I seem to remember they have a deal with corsair that you would just need to return the unit to scan and they ship it to corsair rather than you having to ship it to corsair yourself (corsair's repair centre is in Holland)

Its only because I had a Zalman ZM850-HP which was a beast of a power supply. Loved it apart from the it was only partial modular. There were too many fixed cables for my needs and these were a pain to tuck away...

Kinda like everything, sleek and tidy. Minimum amount of cables..

But if the only cables attached are ones you would use anyway that would be acceptable?

I mean how can it hurt to have CPU cables attached?
Or even one set of PCIe cables as in the Newton R3, you are always going to have a graphics card installed right?

Now opening my mind to hybrid modular design. Seems to be much more choice. Reading up on the below to figure out which is best.

Those two are just insanely expensive imo and I'm not at all against spending good money on quality equipment that will last.

The Newton R3 600W Platinum can be had for £90 after cashback and is plenty for powering your current system.
Unless you plan on high end SLI you just don't need 750w.

The Newton R3 600W Platinum can be had for £90 after cashback and is plenty for powering your current system.
Unless you plan on high end SLI you just don't need 750w.
Where can I think this cash back offer? I can only see Amazon selling the 600W version, doesn't say anything about cash back.
