does anyone make a sata to +4 pin adapter?

One of my computers uses a 20 pin PSU and has a 24 pin mobo.
I see that sata has all the missing wires for the missing 4 pins and wondered if there is a adapter?

BTW I am using a NEW sea sonic 300w which happens to only have a 20 pin connector yet it has sata??

Re: does anyone make a sata to +4 pin adapter?

Well SATA power can be adapter to a Molex connector easily, and that can be converted to a 4pin square connector easily too.

Sure you don't have a spare Molex connector to use instead?

Or there is always a 20pin to 24pin adapter, which I have used before. It was a fairly low power draw system though. I guess if you are using a 300w PSU, you should be fine with that though.

Re: does anyone make a sata to +4 pin adapter?

Depending on the motherboard but most will still work with only a 20pin connector, so I'd check to see if it works with just a 20pin first.
If not a 20pin to 24pin adaptor should be fine eg http://www.lindy.co.uk/atx-psu-to-ea...ble/33222.html

After a quick look, no I cannot find any +4pin adaptors, only way to do it would be to make one up yourself.

sata to +4pin would be better than molex to +4pin as the +4pin is one earth, one 3.3v, one 5v and one 12v wire
molex lacks the 3.3v, it's also the reason that some drives don't work with a molex to sata adaptor

As above, just get a 20 to 24 pin converter, cheaper on ebay £1.75 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20-to-24-p...item4ac4917268 or Amazon for a Startech @ £3.20 http://www.amazon.co.uk/StarTech-com...s=20+to+24+pin

Re: does anyone make a sata to +4 pin adapter?

Just go for the 20-to-24 pin adapter, I had it to when I had one of the first boards around with 24pin ATX socket (ASUS A8N SLI Deluxe).

Personally I have very good personal experience with all Startech accessories. But a straight connector-to-connector can't really be botched, can it?

I might have a mess around sometime, but as you all said its working perfect without it! Just waiting for my gt310 then I can test it!

Re: does anyone make a sata to +4 pin adapter?

Plus one on the adapters. Have used several over the years with no issues. If OP lives near Oxford and wants to collect, PM and I probably have one in the cupboard somewhere for free (no promises - cupboard is messy...)

    Oh yes they can.
At work we've still got a load of old p4's which have 20pin the last batch of psu's we had where 24pin, not 20+4pin, so we had to get some adaptors.
Luckly I spotted an issue before I turned it on, a 3.3v wire from the 24pin was going to what should of been a 12v on the 20pin.
We had about a dozen of them and they where all the same, got onto the supplier at once, they put me in contact with cables2go (who where the "manufacture") talked to one of their cs people then a more technical person, he took one look at that photo I sent and said he'd arrange to get replacements sent out.
However I got an email from them a hour later, apologising and thanking me for alerting them, turns out their whole batch was the same so they couldn't send working ones and we got a full refund.

I've not had problems with startech or Lindy, Lindy cables are good quality, yes a bit expensive on their website, but you can generally get them cheaper from other etailers.

Well daa, if they don't make them as they should be made, of course they can be botched, but I meant the actual connector-cable-connector structure to go tits-up.

Worst case scenario, if you don't trust them, just double check the cables for each pin from a diagram.

Re: does anyone make a sata to +4 pin adapter?

Well if they used some cheap 20gague or thinner wires or seriously cheap and nasty pins that don't align correctly and bend or snap.
Granted the simplicity of them does make it harder to muck up and easier to spot a bad product.

But like I said I trust both Lindy and Startech they don't make flashy products but decent quality products that work.

Cables2go, handled the fault well and didn't try to mess be about which is a big plus, but the obvious lack of QA testing that allowed a whole batch of adaptors through has put me off them somewhat.
