    Anyone use a Corsair AX760 ?

I recently put together my first PC and everything went really well and it has been running fine so far. Despite this I have been experiencing constant coil whine with my PSU (Seasonic x 650 KM3) which has resulted in me having to return it unfortunately. I'm now on the lookout for a replacement, which at the moment looks to be the Corsair AX 760. Before I do pick it up though, it would be nice to hear some thoughts about it, especially from those who actually have it.

    Thanks

I ended up purchasing an AX 760i. I'll post my thoughts on the product once I've recieved it, if anyone is interested.

    Re: Anyone use a Corsair AX760 ?

I think the AX is the same unit (KM3), the AXi are another OEM ! If you have a probelm with the AXi, check out the Corsair Forums. Its seem to be a pool of failed units !

    Re: Anyone use a Corsair AX760 ?

Yeah I only just found out that the AX 760 was based off the Seasonic KM3 platform, so there wasn't much point going for that. What's this about the AXi series having failing units? I heard nothing but good reviews about them and yes the OEM is Flextronics instead of Seasonic because it is a digital PSU. Got me worried now :/

    Re: Anyone use a Corsair AX760 ?

The AXi's seem to suffer from coil whine & fan ramping up when idle. It could be down to the Corsair Link software but the AXi dont seem to suffer as bad as the HX & TX lines... If yours is fine dont go looking for faults LOL, I said nothing...

Your's will be fine They make 1000 of these PSU so some will fail, its just a shame its me lately this keeps happening...

My was a HX850 that ramps up speed to 100% on load, the sound is over the system & it seems strange from a PSU as they are usually wisper quiet ?

    Re: Anyone use a Corsair AX760 ?

I recently purchased (and recieved) a Corsair AX860, but have yet to test it.

I'll post back when I have.

As far as I am aware, the AX760 and AX860 are both made for Corsair by Seasonic (as are the AX750 and the AX850).

Meanwhile, the "i" series (e.g., AX760i, AX860i, AX1200i) are made for Corsair by Flextronics. (In addition, they also make the AX1200.)

This data is available here (scroll down): http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page447.htm

As to fears over Flextronics (i.e., people not knowing anything about them, or if they are any good), I personally believe these are unfounded. If anything, I have seen less forum posts about problems with the Flextronics units than I have seen with the Seasonic units.

    Re: Anyone use a Corsair AX760 ?

I tested the AX860 (sorry for the delay) today. Sadly, I have to report that my unit "whines".

I percieve the noise to be right at the top of my hearing spectrum. Any higher and I likely would not hear it. I would describe it as a "dog whistle" sound that you may hear in some movies. It's not perceptible if there is other sound in the room (e.g., radio, music, video), however, if the room is silent/quiet, and you run a very quiet system, it is audible. The noise will be perceptible during "brain work" (e.g., study, report-writing) requiring a quiet room.

Dissapointing from Corsair -- and the manufacturer, Seasonic -- I have to say, as this is a premium priced product. I'm not too sure how useful an RMA would be, as there would be a possibility of recieving a unit with the exact same problem. Internet (forum) research indicates a high chance of that happening.

    Re: Anyone use a Corsair AX760 ?

Adding my hat into this. Corsair sell shoddy PSU's in my opinion.

I've had two AX850's , both suffered from annoying coil whine and both within 9 months stopped powering up. Flicking the power switch on the back of the unit was the only thing that fired them up again - pulling power cord didn't solve my issue.

I replaced the last AX850 with a AX750 as the prices all went up and after 8 months, this is doing exactly the same. Since my last two AX850 my system has changed, so defo the PSU's.

Hi, Did you send the unit back? Does it still whine?

Ive recently purchased a Corsair AX860 from Amazon, awaiting its delivery, still time to cancel.

I dont understand why the Corsairs get so many good reviews from experts if they whine. Maybe theres a high percentage of bad units but if you get a good unit your sorted...?

    Re: Anyone use a Corsair AX760 ?

I am waiting for delivery of a AXi760 before I send back my AX750.

The coil whine is very common with Seasonic PSU's - so it affects the AX range and other OEM's that use them.

Coil whine is a hit and miss thing. May never happen, your hearing might not be sensative to pick it up , but there are plenty of complaints.

    Re: Anyone use a Corsair AX760 ?

Been reading alot of forums on whine and other various problems with both the i and non i versions of these PSUs. Im going to put it down to the fact Corsair are one of the biggest PSU sellers out there and therefore get more complaints even though complaints/Sales percentage is the same as other Suppliers. When I google other suppliers and PSUs followed by 'Whine' I also see complaints so I dont think its isolated to Corsair

Will report back once I have my PSU(hope i'm not proven wrong).

    Re: Anyone use a Corsair AX760 ?

Okay so my PSU arrived a couple of days a go and Im pleased to say although its early days no whine as of yet. Ive been running the usual benchmarks Furmark, Unigine valley etc for half an hour + and the PSU is dead silent so I am very pleased.

Im running it with an i7 2600k and GTX690 in a Fractal R4 case, my system is completely watercooled and VERY quiet at load so I would be able to hear any funny sounds. I am however only pulling 350-400 watts from the wall so that is part of the reason as I dont think the fan kicks in till about 300. Will come back ranting if problems do start to occur but so far so good.

Coil whine has nothing to do with the fan.
