Cheap 500-600w semi/fully modular PSU
I am looking for a new 500w-600w power supply for my new build I want it to be either modular or semi modular to help with cable management and I want it to be at least 80plus bronze obviously the higher the better but for my budget I am willing to spend up to £75.
Re: Cheap 500-600w semi/fully modular PSU
I have a Xfx XXX semi modular silver. It's a 750W that I got for £70 something... So you should be been to find a 600W too.
Re: Cheap 500-600w semi/fully modular PSU
It's a bit no frills, but it's cheap and covers your needs.

Re: Cheap 500-600w semi/fully modular PSU
I would get a Corsair CX500M and save some cash.

But if you want something better have a look at Be Quiet!, they make a nice range. I've got a Be Quiet! CM580w in my HTPC, very nice and quiet. I paid £78 from Amazon. They sent me a Euro power lead so I phoned up and they refunded £20 so I could buy a UK power lead, they are only a couple of quid, plus I had one in the house, so it was a nice saving.

Re: Cheap 500-600w semi/fully modular PSU
Yeah, you might want to let us know what is in your build. That G450 might be just the ticket although technically not within your 500-600w range. Most people do over estimate what they need.
Re: Cheap 500-600w semi/fully modular PSU
The G-450 is only 1A shy on the +12V rail compared to the CX500M btw, so the only reason to get the CX500M over the G-450 is if you want to save money.
Re: Cheap 500-600w semi/fully modular PSU
I currently have Amd Phenom II 965 and Amd Radeon 6850 that I use for gaming but I plan on upgrading soon to a better gpu and maybe a 8350.
Re: Cheap 500-600w semi/fully modular PSU
I think the G-450 is still your best option, unless you're willing to pay more for the 550W version.
However some other options with more wattage (on the label) which are okay as well, if you really need more and can't/don't want to stretch for the G-550:
Enermax Triathlor FC ETA550AWT-M (£71 @ Scan)

OCZ ZT Series 550W (£60 @ Scan / £63 @ Dabs / £64 @ Amazon, OCUK / £66 @ CCL Online)
http://skinflint.co.uk/ocz-zt-series...w-a692688.html
Independantly regulated, fully modular, Japanese secondary capacitors. Downside is that the fan is very unlikely to spin slower than 1000RPM, so quite noisy, especially in idle.
Xigmatek Centauro XTK-CB-0600M (£64 @ Amazon / CCL Online / Dabs)
http://skinflint.co.uk/xigmatek-cent...2-a772785.html
Uses the same platform as the OCZ ZS Series and Rosewill HIVE series, so good performance wise.
Review of the 700W version:
http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php...Story&reid=294
Which shows that it doesn't use all Japanese caps like the OCZ version, therefore ripple isn't quite as well controlled. But voltage regulation is good coz of indy regulation and the fan is fairly slow in idle.
be quiet Pure Power L8 530W CM (£60 @ Amazon / £63 @ Scan, CCL Online)
http://skinflint.co.uk/be-quiet-pure...1-a674412.html
Best fan in terms of noise of the bunch, Japanese secondary capacitors. Not independently regulated.
Re: Cheap 500-600w semi/fully modular PSU
I was looking at the 550w OCZ ZT PSU but if the fan is noisy then I'm now looking more towards the corsair cxm 500w as it's only £50 looks good and seems the best value I can find

I've got the 580W version. Its very nice. Picked mine up from amazon for £78.
Re: Cheap 500-600w semi/fully modular PSU
Don't get CX PSU's, the build quality is nowhere near the actual seasonic PSUs.
"Cheap" and "PSU" should never go hand in hand, unless you enjoy playing Russian Roulette with it frying the rest of your system.

While I agree that skimping on a PSU is not something you want to do. And the £60+ PSUs are certainly better in noise and quality. Sometimes people are seriously limited by budget and have to set a limit on how much they spend. The limit I set is that I would not drop below £50. That means it falls into the Antec CX500M if you want modular. But in my case I found more, but that's because I had the spare cash. Not everybody does.
