750W Seasonic G-750 Hybrid Modular 80Plus GOLD PSU with Siilent 120mm Fan

Hello Hexus Community,

I have recently found the above PSU on Scan.co.uk, and was wondering if anyone had any experience / some solid reviews on it? There is only one on 'realhardtech'. I know Seasonic normally make solid PSU's but you never know (knowing my luck, I will pick the one dodgy one).

Any advice / input would be appreciated!

Seasonic are one of the most consistent PSU makers. As with any electrical purchases, there is always a (small) chance of buy a duff unit, however. The G-750 has been pretty well reviewed, with HardOCP giving it their Silver award:

I doubt you'll be having any trouble with a solid PSU like that. Seasonic are consistent in making quality PSUs

Make sure to buy according to your needs. Unless you're running in SLI/XFire you definitely don't need a 750W power supply. If you get a power supply with too much wattage it will actually decrease your systems power efficiency.

Most PSUs operate at peak efficiency at around 50% load. If you're only ever going to have a single graphics card, a 750W unit is probably a bit high. But if you're planning to use SLI or Crossfire in the future, I'd stick with 750W myself, although in all honesty a 650W unit would probably do, if you're not running two high end cards like the R9 290X which are pretty power-hungry.

You can think of it as a sort of roughly fixed overhead. The more powerful the supply the bigger this overhead is due to the supply needing more or beefier components, so the more power you actually need to be drawing in order to make it worth while. PSUs are usually very efficient from about ~40% load upwards. If you over-spec the PSU you increase the overhead and decrease efficiency, and make it more likely you'll fall into the much less efficient band of the supply (new platinum rated supplies are tested for low load efficiency as well though, so if you do want to over spec, go for platinum all other things being equal).

It's a excellent psu and is extremely quiet. I bought mine just before Christmas to replace my 5 year old Zalman 750HP which was being troublesome with my new GTX780. The Zalman with it's fancy heatpipe cooling was quiet but this Seasonic takes it to another level. The only hardwired cabels are ones you will be using anyway, 24pin, 8 pin and a dual pci-e lead. All the rest are modular. There is a review over at HardOCP although i based my purchase on JonnyGuru's review of the 650w unit. For me he is the best source of psu reviews and has tested most of the G series but not the 450w or 750w versions. All have scored over 9.5/10. I wouldn't worry about efficiency with these unit as they are extremely efficient across all loads as you can see from the Jonnyguru review.
