New Power Supply

Hi I was wondering if i would need a new power supply, i am upgrading my rig and i have an old Enermax Galaxy 1000w power supply. in all i think it will cost me £700 which i have saved, a new power supply 1500w would cost extra £200. All reviews for the power supply are 2006 2007 time

Sice a debacle a few years ago with a dodgy Corsair HX PSU, I replace my power supplies at either 3 years for "standard" quality PSUs, and 5 or perhaps 6 years for a quality one. Currently I'm on a Seasonic X-560, so it'll be perhaps late next year when I replace it.

I suggest shining a torch inside the PSU to see whether you can find any bulging capacitors. If everything looks OK, then keep using it. If it has been used in a very hot or stressful environment, then perhaps consider replacing it as a precautionary measure.

Other people will have a different perspective, and they might perhaps be right: if it works fine, keep using it, chances are it'll be fine.

Your question was valid and your concern for your components admirable. But regards to the change, I must repeat what other members said before me: No need to change.

Your PSU will be fine. It is a high end model, albeit from 2007ish. It should be fine for you for years to come, as long as it has the correct connectors for your system.

You really do not need a 1500w PSU either.
A 8 core PC with 3 x GTX Titans would not even use 1500w of power.

Yeah power supply's are often overspeced. I think OP would be fine with a good quality 650W tbh.

That PSU will be completely fine handling that system, and was quite high end at the time, so it should work reliably.

Definitely keep the unit, no reason to upgrade at all.
