I have bought a new mobo and it had a 8 pin power supy my old board and my psu has a 4 pin connection.
Is it ok to use a 4 pin to 8 pin adapter?
Or is it better to buy a new psu?
Would the adapter to ok until I buy a new psu?

Depends on what the old psu is, how old it is and the gauge of wire relative to what you expect to draw from it.
The 8 pin was introduced to ensure enough power could be delivered so it would definitely be advisable to get a newer capable PSU.
I plan on getting a new psu but can't aford it ATM but the 4-8 cable is only £3. Would it be ok until I get a better psu? My old psu is about 2 year old and it's to power the mobo along with the 24 pin
