I was looking for the one I got recently which is a coolermaster of almost the same name , v550s, as it is gold rated and semi modular because I got it for under £50 and it is seasonic built which carries a lot of weight with me but stock seems limited and is up to £75. Keep your eye out though as its a cracking PSU.

I believe the only downside to these cheaper corsairs is that they use Chinese capacitors rather than the better received Japanese variety.

I would say that is a solid bet as long as you do not need modular cables though and is within budget. Obviously its not an area of your build you want to skimp on as it is rather vital to smooth operation especially when overclocking is involved.

    Thanks for the reply!

Was looking at either: the Corsair VS550 550 Watt 80+ White Rated £37 or the EVGA 500B 500W 80+ BRONZE at £39. I could maybe go as high as £45/50 jusr depends if the gf can give some cash towards it when she gets paid in a couple of days. Will defo keep an eye out!

From the Scan PSU list, spend a few quid more on one of the XFX 550 models, built by Seasonic.

Thats great! One part down, only a few to go. Hopefully at this rate I can get all the parts ordered by the end of the week

Don't go for Corsair VS that's for sure, it's even worse than their CX line which use mediocre caps, mediocre QC and have only a 3 year warranty

XFX PSUs -> +1 vote. Always reliable. Even if in the past one or two did managed to develop some 'odd noise' issue.

You might as well look at the following PSU comparison: http://uk.hardware.info/reviews/6081...ut-to-the-test

XFX is definitely a good choice, all made by Seasonic hence the quality

I was looking at the XFX, but now looking at a bequiet as I'd like to minimise noise - is this a bad idea? Should I stick with the XFX as I assume it's reasonably quiet?

It's not a bad idea at all - BeQuiet are still OK supplies, and they put a little extra budget into the fans compared to XFX which on mine had a very cheap fan whose bearings started wearing out and creating a racket. Was a fairly common issue on the pro series at least when they first came out.

    Re: Best 500/550W PSU?

On the noise front, I have an XFX Core 550W and don't notice any noise. That's going to depend on your setup though, my PSU is bottom mounted in my Carbide 300R and its in a desk too, but I certainly haven't noticed noise from mine.
