    Wink Inexpensive PSU suggestion 450-550W

I'm looking to build a cheap rig, I don't think I'll be needing more than 430W so I'm undecided between the following PSU's:

    Aerocool Integrator 600W
    Antec VP450P 450W
be quiet! System Power 8 500W
Cooler Master GM Series G550M 550W
    Corsair CX430 430W
    Corsair VS450 450W
    Corsair VS550 550W
    Enermax NAXN Basic 500W
    EVGA 100-W1-0430-KR 430W
    EVGA 100-W1-0500-KR 500W
    Seasonic ECO-430 SS-430ST 430W
    Thermaltake TR2 Challenger 500W
    XFX TS P1-430S-XXB9 430W
    XFX XT Series 500W

Each costing around 30 something pounds. Any suggestions? I'm not looking to spend more than 40 pounds on a PSU, btw

    Re: Inexpensive PSU suggestion 450-550W

You should list the components you plan to use as that information is needed to give a solid recommendation

Personally I'd avoid the Corsair CX430 430w. I had one that I used as a backup/ troubleshooting unit but it never impressed me in its performance under high loads. Was a huge disappointed as I also had an older Corsair 400CX that was amazing in comparison for the 5 years I had it until the fan died.

I have the Seasonic ECO-430 in my Office/Media PC and thats proving a bargain for the £30 I paid for it. Dual rail instead of a single rail in design and in an older AMD Phenom II X4 system with 4GB memory + HD7770, hooked up to lot of USB devices and TV/Monitors its very quiet under load. Connectivity is a bit limited with just the 1 6/8-pin PCI-E cable.
I know there are higher watt PSU's with more cable options around the same price but in several reviews I read the competition fell down on quality. Seem to recall a review of the EVGA 430w failing a PSU test when the load was cranked up.

Could look at some EVGA G2 models that can be had for ~£45 and its a ton better than those ones.

    use the PSU Tier list.

    Re: Inexpensive PSU suggestion 450-550W

Most of what you have listed are rubbish and the psu is not the place to save money. Argueably it is the single most important component in a pc as it has to provide clean, stable power to the other components. Another thing to double check is what the psu can actually deliver on the 12v rail. Just because it says it's a 430/450/500w psu doesn't mean it can deliver that power on the 12v rail where it's needed. For example, the Antec VP450P only has 360w on the 12v rail. The rest is made up on the minor rails. Any decent modern psu should be able to output near enough all of it's power on the 12v rail. The cheap Corsairs are to be avoided. The CX series are budget units built down to a price with cheap internals. The VS series are even lower quality and are barely better than a cheap generic psu.

Nobody is going to recommend a psu until you list what it has to power.

As said above. More info is required as this will affect what connectors and 12v supply are required,.

One to consider is the CS450M. Although its not a top performer that exceeds all standards, like more expensive and powerful PSUs do, its often sub £40 and covers most bases well.

Reviewers have comented on the high quality parts and build quality, although the acoustics are a bit sub-par.

    Re: Inexpensive PSU suggestion 450-550W

On Corsair, yes the CX are a lower end but they are still good units, esp for everyday pc's not full on gaming rigs (that said a lower-mid range card, eg gtx950 or gtx960, should be fine)
The original CX400w was very good, the replacement CX430w was not as good, the CX430wV2 was good and the new CX430w is even better
All are good decent units but nothing spectacular

The VS range I'd be more concerned over, still better than your cheapo carp but not really worth it IMO.

The CS units are decent as well get them over the CX modular versions as they cost around the same. the one Biscuit linked is a nice option

However non-modular and slightly cheaper 430w Seasonic Eco https://www.scan.co.uk/products/430w...ps-haswell-rea these are decent units too.

Most of the PSU's you've listed are decent, not great, but decent to good.
Even the areocool is not complete garbage, again not good, it can do 600w in atx specs just don't expect any more than that and the life span of the capacitors is questionable but it will work.

Aerocool Integrator 600W = Crap caps! AVOID!
Antec VP450P 450W= Reasonably solid but uses a mish-mash of caps
be quiet! System Power 8 500W= Solid but uses Teapo but some cheaper caps too
Cooler Master GM Series G550M 550W = Solid - uses some Japanese caps and Teapo ones but also some crap ones
Corsair CX430 430W = Solid and if it is a later version uses some decent caps and some cheaper ones to
    Corsair VS450 450W =Crap caps! AVOID!
    Corsair VS550 550W=Crap caps! AVOID!
Enermax NAXN Basic 500W =Probably would avoid
EVGA 100-W1-0430-KR 430W = Not a good choice of caps
EVGA 100-W1-0500-KR 500W = Poor review from JG and not a good choice of caps
    Seasonic ECO-430 SS-430ST 430W = Decent build and performance.Only 230V/240V
Thermaltake TR2 Challenger 500W = 700W version gets a good review and has decent caps. 500W has decent caps
XFX TS P1-430S-XXB9 430W = Decent build and might be related to the Seasonic PSU
XFX XT Series 500W = New cost reduced line from XFX. Designed by Seasonic but built by another company with crap caps

    Re: Inexpensive PSU suggestion 450-550W

If you're not bothered about going up to modular prices for G2 / RMx series, I would take the XFX TS. I own the slightly larger TS 550w and its effectively a rebadge of the Seasonic S12ii supposedly, gets pretty solid reviews and so at least in theory, the build quality is equally good for the low models. They can be had pretty cheap considering their quality too, certainly one of the best deals I found while building my PC.

Since its non-modular though expect a lot of cable mess, the 550w atleast has a lot of cables coming off of it, and for that reason I'm shifting up to a G2/RMx. No problems at all with the PSU, but now I have the extra funds I'd rather go up to modular on my PC and keep the XFX as spare.

    EVGA 100-W1-0500-KR 500W
    EVGA 100-B1-0500-KR 500W

Both a good lower end units, non modular obviously but they will get the job done nicely. Furthermore I believe both are currently on sale at Scan

    Re: Inexpensive PSU suggestion 450-550W

As a reminder PSU's are something Buyers might just overlook, but generally staying with good product brands such as EVGA and Corsair come with warranties, which gives us all comfort. Try get something modular if you can, always help with minimising cable cluster and use only what you need, giving your system a well polished look rather than you just throw up in you case and not bothered with cable management.
