    Recommend a PSU

I need a new PSU. My specs are as follows.

    Gigabyte 970a-ds3p motherboard
    AMD fx6300 cpu
    GTX 580 GPU
    4GB RAM (two sticks)
Zalman CNPS9900-MAX Blue Ultra cpu fan
    A few 120mm case fans
    500GB WD WD5000BPVT 5400RPM 8M HDD
    X Fi Xtreme sound card
    DVD writer/player

    Thanks

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Zalman-ZM550...dp/B00949HJ5C/ Modular, gold rated efficiency, high build quality and plenty of power for your build.

If money's tight you could do worse than http://www.amazon.co.uk/EVGA-500B-BR...dp/B00DZ6R9GE/ Enough power, bronze rated efficiency, ok build quality (doesn't have top notch capacitors, but they aren't terrible ones), non-modular.

I'm sure someone will be along to recommend the XFX PSUs soon, but the 550w is too close in price to that Zalman and it's worth paying the extra for efficiency and modularity. The 450w only has a single pci-e connector so you'd need an adaptor for your GPU. I'd also say that while it would probably be ok, 450w is a bit lower than I'd like for that setup.

    Re: Recommend a PSU

Honestly, I've always run Antec PSU's, with only one exception. I built a pc for my brother on a budget, using a corsair PSU. It's made me considering using one of the AX series for my next build. Personally, they're what I'd go for. Pick one with over 500w, and you're set.

    Re: Recommend a PSU

Most recently my last couple of system builds run Corsair Platinum rated i-series and they are really nice & quiet. Voltage on all rails seems really stable and on my bigger system the 1200AXi runs a hefty SLI graphbics set up, with an over-clocked CPU and the water-cooling system without breaking a sweat. Highly recommended.

Just bought one and found the fan vibration (although quiet), resting my hand on the case, was noticeable compared to the Corsair HX 520 it replaced...nothing wrong with the Corsair but thought a more powerful PSU would solve my problem of the motherboard dithering with three hardrives installed, before it actually booted into windows. h'mm didn't solve anything maybe it's the 2500k @4.4 ghz is the problem

I'm not saying the coolermaster vanguard 850 is rubbish as it's made by seasonic and has a very good review, scan were selling them as low as £74.39 for 2 weeks (as mentioned in another thread).

I'm sure I read that evga were made by superflower.....superflower (odd name) seem to be making VG PSU's ATM and have seen excellent reviews.

    Re: Recommend a PSU

Not all of the EVGA's are made by Superflower, some are FSP and HEC units. There's also a new super cheap (and nasty) 400w unit built by Acbel Polytech that's only rated 400w (360w on the 12v) at a pathetic 25 degrees C. Only the G1, G2, P2 and T2 units have the 10 year warranty. I see there are also some Gold and Platinum rated Seasonic built units coming soon.

    Re: Recommend a PSU

I highly recommend cross-checking with jonnyguru (Google search for it) - a decent review site for PSUs .
Look for one which gets 9.5 or 10/10 on his scale before considering which PSU model to pick.

I second that suggestion, although you really need to read at least the conclusion page, not just glance at the score. JG docks half a point if the PSU is only semi-modular and another half point for a shoddy manual, which means the best semi-modular PSU in the world might only score a 9. Even less in fact, if the cabling isn't otherwise to his liking.

In other words, if full modularity and perfect sleeving is unimportant to you and you have no need of a manual, a JG score of 8.5 might do very nicely indeed.

As far as specifics go, Cooler Master's V and VS series and EVGA's G1, G2, GS, T2, P2 and PS PSUs are where it's at right now if you want the best possible quality at the lowest possible price. Either one will get you a Seasonic or top of the line Super Flower unit at prices which are sometimes quite significantly lower than units of similar quality and pedigree from brands like Corsair and Enermax.

    Re: Recommend a PSU

Super Flower PSU's are excellent! Mine is absolutely silent even when the fan is running (the fan is off until the PSU starts to get warm). I have the 750W gold version in my main PC and i'll continue to use Super Flower in future builds too. My other PC has a 600W Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold which is also pretty good
