    Seasonic Px-650 or Fractal Ion+ 660P

I have been a Seasonic stalwart over the years but having been bitten by the OCP problem on the 750-X with high power graphics cards I am considering a change.

The Fractal Ion+ looks to be a decent equivalent. Are there any drawbacks?
Who knows, I might even follow it up with a Fractal case soon.

(and yes I want a platinum PSU)

    Re: Seasonic Px-650 or Fractal Ion+ 660P

I'm using a 560p and am pleased with it. I first tried a seasonic 550W prime platinum (i.e. last year's PX-550), but ended up going through 3 units that all got RMA's with faulty fans (one also was missing some of the branding stickers from the outside, which didn't affect function at all but made me wonder just how bad the QC was for that to have been shipped) - kudos to scan for handling the RMAs and eventual refund BTW, they were great.

The seasonic units were also faulty in that the semi-passive limit was considerably lower than they claimed - they were meant to not spin the fan up to 200W but were doing so at ~50W, which was made more annoying by the ticking sound the fans made (I suspect bearing issues). No issues with the 560p - I'm not actually sure if the fan is doing as claimed, as it's not faulty so I can't tell if it's spinning or not (so don't mind too much either way).

Fractal are one of the few high end units that aren't just rebadged seasonic ones, and after my experience this was a big plus for me

I haven't seen a bad review for the Fractal Ion+ yet (minor points at Tom's but maybe I should look harder) but I think this is the way to go should they eventually arrive at Scan.

    Re: Seasonic Px-650 or Fractal Ion+ 660P

I've had a friend mention their Ion+ wasn't so good at drawing power for whatever reason, although like you say, reviews seem decent for the Ion+ and the price point isn't so bad either given it is a platinum PSU. I don't have any personal experience so can't comment if friends statement is true. Is there any reason why you want a platinum only?

    Re: Seasonic Px-650 or Fractal Ion+ 660P

After 3.5 months with the Ion+ I can say that it has not once shown the startup problems that the Seasonic 750-X was showing 50% of the boots. It has been rock solid despite heavy use.
By contrast, my other machine with a Seasonic Focus Plus 750W has had a few wobbles when stressing it with the AMD Vega 56 graphics (same on both machines).

Why platinum only? A little bit less heat (it was hot back when I asked), a very small saving on electricity compared to the price and an insignificant contribution to the environment if it lasts many years.

Fractal seem to have 10 year warranties as standard which is good. Is there any reason you're looking at the Ion+ in particular? Also as another commenter mentioned, is there a specific reason you're after a platinum PSU?
