Question Clicking sound on speakers in sync with clicking noise from PSU

    Hi

Had this issue for a while but not really bothered me as I use a headset and the problem only happens on the rare occasion I hook up some old hifi speakers.

The speakers run fine when the source is the sound system. Only happens when hooked up to PC

For the last couple of years my PSU has been constantly emitting a clicking/ tapping sound which I would is most likely to be a dodgy fan/ bearings.

If it's truly a dodgy fan, then should I really be getting the same sounds/ clicks in sync with PSU clicks when hooking up speakers? Or is something else amiss here?

Maybe lack of shielding on the old speakers? They're about 20 yrs old lol.

Definitely sounds like interference, my sub does it in the living room unless I very carefully route the wire to it avoiding all the other cables back there.

Is it a separate sound card or on-board sound?

    my onboard died.

So I use an old audigy 2 on a PCI slot and also a usb soundcard that came with a gaming headset.

On the Audigy 2 ZS I think the mic port is messed up because even if no mic is plugged in the clicking sound can be heard and i have to disable the mic source in sound settings for it to stop. The Audigy is just above the power supply.

No such issue on the mic port on the usb sound.

Regardless of source if it still comes through on the speakers. So I guess I need to route it better.

I'd guess this is your problem - do you have another PCI slot higher up away from the PSU?

It might be a good time to look at getting your onboard sound fxed - driver issue? Or maybe get a USB sound card. could possibly route sound through HDMI on your GPU in a pinch?
